The Alex Tuch trade means the Golden Knights can chalk up a win on a past deal

Plenty of Buffalo fans will be swimming in an African river called De Nile over this. But Washington's latest move signals a Golden Knights win with Eichel.

Alex Tuch shook the NHL universe to its very core by going to the Washington Capitals. He signed an eight-year, $10.5 million AAV deal in a sign-and-trade deal from the Buffalo Sabres. Suddenly, the remaining pieces from the Jack Eichel deal are Peyton Krebs and Noah Ostlund. That's it.

No Stanley Cups to show for it. No Stanley Cup playoff appearances until this past season, only to be eliminated by the Montreal Canadiens. But, hey, at least you got some good mileage from the Original Misfit. How does 139 goals and 170 assists in five seasons with Buffalo sound?

Still, it finally puts the Jack Eichel trade debate to bed. The Vegas Golden Knights won that trade in resounding fashion, watching their Misfit go to the Nation's Capital to help an upstart Capitals team win another Stanley Cup. But what about Eichel himself?

Well, he won a Stanley Cup and nearly won the Conn Smythe trophy in 2023. Not only that, but he has 127 goals and 216 assists in five seasons with the Golden Knights. That's not even mentioning how he has the single-season record for the most assists (66 in 2024-25) and the most points (94 in 2024-25).

It's time to put the Jack Eichel trade debate to bed once and for all with the latest Alex Tuch news

Look, everyone hopes to win every trade they make. They want to have some form of bragging rights over the other fanbase, especially if their team doesn't have a Stanley Cup to their name. For Buffalo, they wanted to win this team based on the future it held.

A solid goal-scoring winger with a hard shot, along with some young players, certainly can't go wrong. Admittedly, Ostlund actually looked servicable in the 2025-26 season, scoring 11 goals and 16 assists. But what about Peyton Krebs, you ask? Well... Buffalo fans are feeling a little crabby.

The former first-round pick hasn't exactly put up numbers worthy of a first-round pick. His 2025-26 totals were his career-highs, totaling 12 goals and 27 assists. Yes, those are good numbers. But those aren't putting you on the Sabres' top line.

In fact, those are fourth-line numbers, which is where Krebs ended up with Buffalo. Meanwhile, they lose a top-six winger in Tuch, who will add more scoring to a Capitals team close to breaking through. Hey, at least they won the Bowen Byram trade, right?

Still, the Golden Knights faithful can rest easy with the latest Tuch news. The Original Misfit gets paid and starts a new life with fellow ex-Golden Knight, Logan Thompson. Armed with a fresh head coach and plenty of scoring options, it's wise not to sleep on the Capitals next season.

As for Buffalo? Well, Sabres fans are swimming in an African river because they're in De Nile right now. The Golden Knights have won the Jack Eichel trade and will relish in its franchise player making the Stanley Cup Final more than once. Heck, he can even throw in a Stanley Cup into the mix to throw salt on the wound.
