Las Vegas was disheartened to hear the news surrounding a big event on Monday. No, the Vegas Golden Knights didn't pull out of the Jerryworld event for next season. Instead, it had to do with the World Cup of Hockey in 2028.
The hosts of the event were announced on Monday, with the nods going to Calgary and Prague for the round-robin games. The finals? That went to Edmonton because McDavid hype and hockey go well together.

Sadly, the Golden Knights faithful won't get a chance to see the world's best players convene in Sin City. It's tragic, considering that Las Vegas was also passed over for the World Cup for soccer. The city that got it instead? Washington, D.C.
That's right. The nation's capital. Not that there's anything wrong with that. But you want to attract people across the globe with a big event, right? Well, you'd better bring them to the entertainment hub in Las Vegas.
That also applies to the World Cup of Hockey, where you're getting the game's best players around. That includes Jack Eichel, Connor McDavid, and David Pastrnak. You don't want to leave any stone unturned in this colossal event. Here's why Sin City deserves serious consideration for future events.
Why Las Vegas must host a game or two for the next World Cup of Hockey
You might think that T-Mobile Arena is the only place for a global event like the World Cup of Hockey to go down. While this is true (and the only realistic option) since this is the home of the Golden Knights, you can't go wrong with another alternative venue in a crazier setting. Let's get ridiculous with the places, shall we?
For starters, you can look at The Sphere, which has grown into a literal cash cow for Las Vegas. After all, this is the place that hosted the NHL Draft in 2024. It wouldn't be too crazy to consider the venue, despite its seating capacity restrictions and arena limitations.
If you wanted to go even crazier, think of having it outdoors. That's right, dear reader. You'd go even crazier and recreate the iconic exhibition game from the 1990's between the Los Angeles Kings and the New York Rangers. Make this a big spectacle and bring everyone on board.
You can't have a big-name event without having Las Vegas as a host
There's no denying that the biggest events have flocked to Las Vegas. You're looking at marquee events like the Super Bowl, the 2028 Final Four, and the 2027 College Football Championship are all coming to Sin City. It marks a shifting tide in the waters, where Las Vegas is grabbing ahold of the sports world.
It's no wonder that the Athletics are coming to town and the NBA is seriously considering a basketball team in Sin City. The money is flowing to Nevada's central hub, making it an attractive spot for everything big.
That includes hockey's next big competition, where hockey fans will get an on-ice equivalent of soccer's (or as they call it in Europe: football) World Cup. Why not start it with a bang and make it an absolute spectacle in Las Vegas?
