Before you look at this post, understand that wins are a multifaceted category for the goaltender. Obviously, the netminder must be good in the net. They should fend off opposing shots and keep their respective team in the game. That also means handling high-pressure situations, such as the closing minutes in a tight match or the penalty kill.
Another part of that equation is the team surrounding him. You can be Martin Brodeur in net and have the Columbus Blue Jackets before you. The result? No wins and you are a potential trade target by a Stanley Cup contender. That's something no goalie wants to experience in their hockey careers.
Luckily, the Vegas Golden Knights don't have that problem. Goaltenders like Marc-Andre Fleury and Adin Hill have thrived off having a great team surrounding them. It does help to hold your own in the net. That's how your team wins a Stanley Cup, after all.
However, being around the best players also helps. So who has done the most with their team? Who has the most wins in franchise history for the Golden Knights? Is it Fleury, the king of franchise records in Las Vegas? Maybe it's Hill, who's always flown under the radar. Let's see who rules the roost in the "dub" category.
Marc-Andre Fleury has the most wins in Vegas Golden Knights history with 117
Remember that the win statistic for the goaltender is similar to the same stat for a baseball pitcher. It matters who's in the net, just as it matters who's on the mound for five innings or more. Therefore, it's a case of being in the right place at the right time.
Still, it shouldn't shock Vegas Golden Knights fans that Marc-Andre Fleury dominated the category with 117. His highest total during his Golden Knights tenure was 35 in 2018-19. Surprisingly, this was a falloff from the deep playoff run a year prior, when Vegas made the Stanley Cup Final.
Sitting in second place was Logan Thompson with 56. The Washington Capitals goaltender had his highest total with the Golden Knights in 2023-24, where he had 25. Adin Hill entered Friday's game against the Winnipeg Jets with 44 in third place. His highest total with Vegas? 19 in 2023-24. Watch for him to potentially shatter that high, though. The Golden Knights have started the season well, thanks to an aspiring Hart Trophy candidate in Jack Eichel.
Winning a hockey game might not be as glorious as fans believe. All you do is play in the net and stop shots. Sometimes, that win is well-earned when you're stopping 40 or more shots. But it hits differently when you're facing... 16. Still, there's no doubt these netminders have earned their keep with the Golden Knights, whether it's Fleury or Hill. Let's hope that neither of these goaltenders are doing anything cringy like this.
Don't eat a "W", Fleury or Hill.
