Last season saw a wave of contributors come out of the woodwork for the Henderson Silver Knights, scoring-wise. Lukas Cormier stepped up to the plate and provided puck-moving play from the defenseman standpoint. Trevor Connelly and Carl Lindbom continued to grow for the Silver Knights, pushing them a step closer to making the main roster. Then, there's Kai Uchacz.
Last season, the Assistant Captain scored 20 goals and 31 assists with Henderson. He also played three games with the Golden Knights, although he didn't score any points. Still, the Silver Knights' stat line is noteworthy for a couple of reasons.
One, he improved on his 2024-25 mark, when he scored 15 goals and 15 assists. He did this in the same number of games as he did in 2025-26, showing incredible improvement. Second, he showed everyone that he can take on leadership responsibilities, specifically with the designation of Assistant Captain.
Those two reasons alone should inspire confidence in the Silver Knights for the 2026-27 season. The team wants to get back to the Calder Cup playoffs and go even further in this session. That means getting Uchacz on board and ensuring he goes even higher. Here's how the forward can do this.
Looking at what Uchacz does for the Silver Knights
One thing that Uchacz does is take penalties. He had 75 penalty minutes in 68 games of his rookie season, which would translate to record-breaking numbers for the Vegas Golden Knights. However, there's a catch: 26 of those came in the last game of said rookie year.
Of course, that leaves him trending towards a bottom- six role in the NHL, where he'd show off his grit and tenacity. That could mean a downturn in production, but it could also mean more punishment on his opponents and replicating Keegan Kolesar's style at a lower price.
Still, he can carve out a niche in the bottom six at the NHL level with his aforementioned leadership. Handling the pressure and added responsibilities makes him perfect for such a role. But it's unlikely that Uchacz will reach the NHL level in 2026-27, barring injuries to the main roster. So, what can he do with the Silver Knights this season?
What will it take for Kai Uchacz to ascend to the next level for the Henderson Silver Knights?
First, Uchacz must clean up his act on the ice. That means keeping his cool and not taking too many penalties. If you wish to make the NHL one day, you can't do anything dumb during key moments. Currently, he can't do this for Henderson, especially if they wish to get back to the Calder Cup playoffs.
He must also continue building on his offensive skills as a young player. If the former Red Deer Rebels star can continue attacking the net as he has done, the Silver Knights will benefit greatly. Henderson needs as many attackers as possible as Uchacz is what the doctor ordered.
Regardless, the Silver Knights should still have plenty of offensive weapons in their arsenal for the upcoming season. With Uchacz among them, the team should be in good hands.
