As I'm kicking the soccer balls on the field, I look out in the distance and see the houses in the background. I also notice the smoldering heat disfiguring the background, showing the 100-degree Fahrenheit heat gripping the visuals.
You can literally see the heat coming from the ground like you were traveling down Route 66 during the summer. It's a cruel reminder of how the summer months can be long and unforgiving. Imagine going to an Aviators game (and soon, an Athletics game) and feeling like the skin on your face is going to burn like a crisp.
The good news? We're heading into August and we have to deal with one more month of this blistering heat that'll melt you in the car. The bad news? It'll feel like a long wait to get to that point.
Still, August will be the last month without hockey. The preseason will roll around and the regular season will follow right after. Don't worry about a thing because we'll be rolling out the "Gold Carpet" and watching Vegas take on the Chicago Blackhawks.
I know that it'll feel like a long wait. But it'll be worth it, especially when the Golden Knights go for a second Stanley Cup. So, what advice can I offer you, dear reader?
Keep cool. Turn up the AC. If you need to sleep commando, do so. Whatever the case, be sure to stay cool so you don't become a puddle of flesh. Make sure your family's okay, too. You don't want them to melt, either.
