Wednesday's Golden Knights wisdom about... jerseys

That's right, we're talking about jerseys today. Here's what we can learn from our threads.

Can you guess whose jersey this is, Vegas Golden Knights fans? It was a player who was traded this summer, being offloaded for more salary cap space. If you guessed Keegan Kolesar, you're correct. He was sent to the Detroit Red Wings for draft picks, getting his $2.5 million cap hit off the books.

But that's the whole point of this post. On Wednesday, the NHL announced that the "Hometown Remix" was coming to the league for the 2026-27 season. All 32 teams would celebrate the representing team's city, culture, and history, making it a first-of-its-kind event in the league.

Of course, the league is partnering with Fanatics to launch this new initiative for the new year. Imagine seeing Mickey Mouse on an Anaheim Ducks jersey (okay, this is unlikely if you're using the modern Mickey Mouse version and not the Steamboat Willie version because... Disney) or seeing the Statue of Liberty on a New York Rangers jersey (not like the 90s jersey, mind you, just in the background). The possibilities here are endless and will bring plenty of intrigue to the NHL.

Better yet, imagine if Kolesar was put on the Red Wings jersey because he represents the fighting spirit of Detroit. Again, you have endless possibilities to work with, making this a fun idea for hockey fans. Anyways, what can we learn about this phenomenon and what makes owning a jersey special and unique? It's time to learn some things about the art of the jersey and see where this will take us.

What can Vegas Golden Knights fans learn about jerseys?

Okay, so full disclosure here. I had a problem with how to wash my jerseys a few years ago. I was a naive person that washed them with regular clothes, treating them with little regard or care. But I learned a harsh lesson when watching the numbers come off and the adhesive washed away. What was a guy to do with his George Kittle jersey suddenly decomposing?

That's when a friend gave me a nice little lesson. Don't put them through a dryer, but let them dry instead. That way, the adhesive doesn't come off and you keep your $200 jerseys intact. I tried it and the trick worked. Of course, that didn't explain why there was some red still bleeding over in one of the jerseys. Perhaps I should stop washing my clothes together to save money and stop being a cheap-o?

But my other friend gave me a better idea. You don't have to wash them after one use. That saved me so much grief from watching my jerseys disintegrate, especially after spending one NVIDIA stock on them. On top of that, I save money on washing my clothes!

So, how do you wash your jerseys? Do you go through numerous wears before finally subjecting them to the washing machine? Do you keep them separate from the other clothes to ensure that the colors don't run? The point? Take care of your investments.
