When you're Bill Foley, you live a charmed life. You've watched your hockey team, the Vegas Golden Knights, make the postseason every season except once (2021-22). Add in three Stanley Cup Final appearances and a fulfilled promise and you have an owner who deserves another team. Well, it appears that Foley understands this and believes he can do it again in the NBA.
"I know I can do it again in basketball. It's going to be difficult, but I know I can do it. I know I can rally a team.""Bill Foley to The Athletic
It's no surprise that Foley wants to rally another Las Vegas team in another sport. The Golden Knights owner's aforementioned accomplishments make him a perfect fit for the job. He offers a hands-off approach not seen from the majority of the Las Vegas entities, ranging from the Athletics to the Raiders.
So, why not bring that same success to one of the most popular sports leagues in North America? It wouldn't be surprising to see said NBA team thrive under Foley's leadership, especially since he believes in making the right moves to win. Of course, Foley has some stiff competition for an NBA franchise in Sin City.
That includes Magic Johnson and Disney CEO Bob Iger. Therefore, don't expect Foley to be an immediate shoo-in for the NBA job. However, do expect the Golden Knights owner to run a similar style to his hockey team—only harder.
"We did a couple things really well. We're going to do it on steroids with an NBA team."Bill Foley
Keep your fingers crossed for Foley and hope that he pulls off a miracle. Wouldn't that be a slam dunk?
