In the first episode of the Jack Eichel tracker, we talked about the spectacular night that the Vegas Golden Knights superstar had on Opening Knight. The superstar center scored a goal and two assists, leading Vegas to a 5-2 victory over the Chicago Blackhawks.
However, a funny thing happened two games later. Eichel had... cooler games. He had two assists in the third period in Friday's loss against the Anaheim Ducks. He followed that up with an assist in Sunday's 3-2 win over the Vancouver Canucks. Cue the Mr. Freeze puns because he's... cooling off.
Ahh... my favorite Arnold Schwarzanegger line. "What killed the dinosaurs? THE ICE AGE!!" Thank goodness for the old cheesy Joel Schumacher Batman movies because that always makes my day.
But that's where the Eichel Tracker stands. The Golden Knights franchise face is pursuing 100 or more points this season, which would make him the first Golden Knight in the team's history to achieve this. Where does he stand in the grand scheme of things, though?
Is he still on track after cooling off and appeasing Schwarzanegger? It's time to dive into the latest edition of the Eichel Tracker and see where everyone's favorite native of Massachusetts truly stands in the pursuit of the century mark.
The Eichel Tracker only produced one point from Sunday's 3-2 win over the Vancouver Canucks
Granted, this was on the power play that set up Victor Olofsson's second goal of the year. However, the one-point performance does raise some alarm bells in the pursuit of 100 or more points. He has 58 career points in the month of October, marking a good start to each NHL season.
The last two seasons have seen him score a combined 35 points. Of course, fans know what happened afterwards with Eichel, for he set the single-season franchise record in 2024-25 with 94 points and nearly broke his own record a season later (90).
Looking at Friday's game against the Anaheim Ducks was a similar situation. It took the Olympic gold medalist until the third period to get going and he ended up with two assists. Fans will notice a trend of getting off to a slow start, which has plagued the Golden Knights for the past two seasons. But that shouldn't deter Eichel from pursuing the century mark.
Still, one thing that irked me from Sunday's game was Eichel's opportunity at an empty-net goal. Not only does scoring the empty-netter get you a guaranteed win, but that's... also a point. Golden Knights fans nearly had traumatic memories of the fiasco against the Buffalo Sabres a couple of seasons ago when Eichel did the same thing. Take those shots, Jack.
Where does the Eichel Tracker stand after three games?
Let's take Sunday's game with a grain of salt. We're only three games into the regular season and the Golden Knights are just getting warmed up. That goes for Eichel as well, who's getting his feet wet in the 2026-27 season.
Even with the one assist in Sunday's win, Eichel is still projected to score 27 goals and 137 assists (164 points) this season. Granted, those numbers should go down a bit as the season progresses. However, Eichel has plenty of cushion for a few off-nights, when he only needs one assist or goal.
Therefore, the Olympic gold medalist is still comfortable in the driver's seat. Considering that Mitch Marner is still taking time to warm up, that puts Eichel firmly in the driver's seat for being the first century-mark player regarding single-season points in Golden Knights history.
