Even in defeat, the Henderson Silver Knights' season should be a success

The Silver Knights are down in their second round series against the Colorado Eagles, 2-1. Still, fans should consider it a success even if they lose.

Let me ask you a question, dear reader. Did you expect the Henderson Silver Knights to be any good this season? Were you thinking that 2025-26 would be just another dud in the bucket of mediocrity? Well, I have some news for you, dear reader.

The Silver Knights defied expectations and finished third in the Pacific Division this season. They also defeated the San Jose Barracuda in the first round, taking both games in absolute thrillers. Sure, the Bay Area might disagree with that statement. But people in Las Vegas and Henderson don't care.

Anyways, the Silver Knights are locked in a battle with the Colorado Eagles. They're down in the second round, 2-1, and were shut out in Game 3, 4-0. Suddenly, things are looking absolutely grim for a promising squad with so much potential.

Will they pull out another miracle? Can they vanquish the vaunted Colorado Eagles?

Those are questions that Silver Knights fans are asking as a big Game 4 looms on Saturday. However, fans shouldn't be discouraged by a potentially disheartening outcome. Instead, they should chalk this up as a success. Why, you ask?

Did anybody expect the Henderson Silver Knights to be a resounding success this season?

Let's flash back to last season, shall we? The Silver Knights found themselves in last place in the Pacific Division with 63 points. This was a team that carried a small glimmer of hope for the Calder Cup playoffs. But that was quickly extinguished as Henderson became overwhelmed and fell out of favor.

Who would've thought that the Silver Knights would jump all the way up to third place in the division this season? Nobody. That's what makes this story a success. Nobody was preparing for this season to be so successful, which is why fans should chalk this up as a win.

Are you going to be on the same level as, say, the Eagles? No, you're definitely not. However, competing with them in the second round is much more surprising than being on the playoff fringe. Therefore, let's give Henderson its flowers on this front.

The Silver Knights have also produced noteworthy prospects for the Vegas Golden Knights

If there was ever hope for the Silver Knights to be successful this season, it hinged on the goaltending. A good netminding group can carry you further than you realize, even when you don't have the necessary scoring.

Carl Lindbom is a perfect example of this with a GAA of 2.16 and a save percentage of .926. He added three shutouts to the mix, making him one of the key pieces. You can also look at Trevor Connelly, who scored 14 goals and 35 assists in 46 games with Henderson. Heck, look at Braeden Bowman, who was even successful with the Vegas Golden Knights with eight goals and 18 assists.

Regardless of what happens on Saturday, fans can't discount this season. The sudden Henderson uprising puts big brother in a better position future-wise, making it easier to replace older talent. That certainly won't sit well with the 31 other fanbases *grins menacingly*.
