It's hard to believe that the Henderson Silver Knights are in the Calder Cup playoffs. I mean, this was supposed to be the red-headed stepchild of Nevada hockey. The team was never meant to succeed, for they were the epitome of a weak Vegas Golden Knights farm system.
However, that wasn't the case this season. The Silver Knights blazed their way to third place in the Pacific Division, falling three points shy of the Ontario Reign. That's impressive work, considering how long the team's expectations were entering the 2025-26 season.
I mean, were fans really expecting Henderson to do anything with the usual scraps? Not this time. The team saw players like Carl Lindbom, Trevor Connelly, and Braeden Bowman break out, moving one step closer to the big show. That's a promising sign for a Golden Knights team that has dealt with a lack of proper prospects throughout the years.
So how did the Silver Knights do in Game 1 against the Barracuda? Was it all smiles and rainbows for the Silver Knights? Or was it the fiery pits of H-E-double hockey sticks with certain fans causing chaos online? Let's dive into the positives and the negatives of this exciting Game 1 against San Jose.
What I liked (and didn't like) about the Henderson Silver Knights in their Game 1 victory against the San Jose Barracuda
Well, there was certainly no shortage of offense in the 5-4 overtime victory over San Jose. Trevor Connelly scored the game-winner and chipped in two assists, while Raphael Lavoie added two more goals.

The offense saw its biggest names break out for a stellar performance, leading the Silver Knights to victory. It's a promising sign for a young team looking at the postseason for the first time.
Of course, the team also dug itself into a hole. Halfway through the game, Henderson was down 3-1. That included two goals allowed in under four games. The penalty kill must also be better because allowing two power play goals won't get you far in the Calder Cup playoffs.
Grading the Silver Knights in Game 1
Look, there were going to be some bumps in the road on Wednesday night. This is a relatively new playoff team that needed some seasoning. However, you can't deny that the team's offensive firepower came through when it was needed the most.
Yes, there are some things that the Silver Knights must improve upon. That ranges from the goaltending needing to be much better to the penalty kill needing better exits. Still, you can't deny that this was a step in the right direction, especially with the team needing to make a statement on Wednesday.
The good thing about Wednesday's game is that you can build off the momentum of a riveting overtime win. You can carry that emotion into the next game and build on it, putting yourself in the driver's seat. The Silver Knights would be wise to capitalize on Connelly's game-winner and use that as motivation. That way, they can surprise the world some more.
