Henderson Silver Knights do the improbable and clinch a Calder Cup playoff spot

Yes, you read that right. No, this isn't a typo.

Ladies and gentlemen, may I have your attention, please? I need you to stop what you're doing and listen. The Henderson Silver Knights are heading to the Calder Cup playoffs. You can thank Ryan Craig and company for making this happen (maybe let him stay with the Silver Knights?).

The Silver Knights got two late goals to defeat the Tucson Roadrunners, 5-4, on Saturday. Lo and behold, Henderson finds itself in a playoff spot for the first time since 2021-22, when it lost to the Colorado Eagles in the first round.

Still, it's been a big year for the Silver Knights, who've come all the way back from the depths of H-E-Double hockey sticks to clinch a spot. In fact, they've won 11 of their past 13 games to get a playoff spot, putting themselves in an incredible position.

We're talking about Carl Lindbom playing as the goaltender of the future. We're also talking about Braeden Bowman getting the game-winning goal with 16 seconds left on Saturday, getting that playoff spot in the process. All of this culminated in a banner year for the franchise, putting them back into the respectability realm in Nevada.

Who knows how far the Henderson Silver Knights can go?

In sports, the team with the hottest hand generally makes a big run during the playoffs. They'll go as far as winning it all, making more noise than anyone expected them to. That could be the case for Henderson as they roll into the Calder Cup playoffs with plenty of momentum.

They've beaten plenty of quality teams along the way, ranging from the Ontario Reign to the Texas Stars. They've also taken care of lesser competition, putting themselves in a sweeter spot. As a result, the Silver Knights are a dark horse team in the Calder Cup conversation, making them a tough out for anybody that they'll face.

Imagine the damage they could do with Bowman in tow. Imagine watching Lindbom steal a game or two in a low-scoring affair. That could be what the doctor ordered as Henderson goes into the Calder Cup playoffs, making them a problematic opponent.

Right now, it's a good time to be a Nevada hockey fan. The Golden Knights are becoming the Golden Knights again, the Silver Knights are finally relevant, and the Tahoe Knight Monsters are a blessing in disguise. Maybe they should take the title of "State of Hockey" from Minnesota and put that in the Silver State. It'd be more appropriate for an absolute winner like Nevada, you know.
