The Vegas Golden Knights prospects took to the ice for the first day of Development Camp at City National Arena on Monday. The team's future skated and practiced, hoping to make the cut and experience NHL glory. I know, it seems odd that the Golden Knights would believe in such a philosophy. Yet, here we are.

Still, the Golden Knights must field some guys to take the ice for the future. If Kelly McCrimmon had his drothers, he'd trade them all and get the league's best players on the roster. After all, he wants to win as many Stanley Cups as humanely possible during the present day.

Alas, Monday was the day for the youngsters to show what they could do for the Golden Knights' future. Some were still getting the kinks out of their system. Others had it down-pat like it was no big deal.

So, let's dedicate this to those youngsters looking for the next big opportunity. Who stood out in the first day of development camp? What should Golden Knights fans watch for as the summer months pass?

Juho Piiparinen looks like a responsible puck-handler

The Vegas Golden Knights have had turnover problems in recent memory. They had the eighth-most during the 2025-26 season with 16.12 per game. The good news? Juho Piiparinen showed that he can handle the puck easily on Monday.

He didn't fumble the puck and quickly dished out a pass. The first-round pick has been lauded for his two-way play, making him a reliable option for the transition game. That could come into play should he eventually get the call-up for the Golden Knights.

Cameron Whitehead had some nice angles during workouts

The Vegas Golden Knights have a loaded goaltender room in the pipeline. Names like the newly-extended Carl Lindbom and Cameron Whitehead give the Golden Knights plenty of options in the future. But let's focus on the latter for a second since he was the primary goaltending focus.

The Northeastern alum had quick cuts and angles throughout his practice session. That, combined with his size, made him into a formidable goaltender for the day. That's great news for the Golden Knights, who will rely on these netminders to carry the load in the future.

Can Trevor Connelly make the roster spot chase interesting?

Much has been made about Trevor Connelly's Golden Knights tenure. The former first-round pick has had a turbulent past, only to make the most of his Silver Knights residency. He scored 14 goals and 35 assists in 46 games this season with Henderson, making him a formidable candidate to make the roster.

But will that be the case or does he need more seasoning in Henderson? That's the big question heading into 2026-27, as the young forward looks to make the cut. But one thing's certain: he knows how to move, which was evident in Monday's skatearound.
