It's no secret that the Vegas Golden Knights are universally hated in the hockey universe. People have gone as far as to create the wildest conspiracy theories about the team, ranging from ritualistic sacrifices to the Golden Knights cutting sweetheart deals with Gary Bettman.
It seems that the drive for attention isn't stopping anytime soon, either. According to Chris Johnston of the Chris Johnston Show, the Golden Knights are ready to unleash their main character energy all over the hockey universe.
"They're gonna be a main character here in the next two weeks."Chris Johnston
That stands with good reason, too. The Golden Knights have become a literal hockey destination for numerous big-name players, whether that's Rasmus Andersson, Jack Eichel, or Mitch Marner. Even with a Stanley Cup Final defeat, that hasn't stopped Kelly McCrimmon from looking at the biggest names on the market for upgrades.
We're talking about players such as Dylan Larkin and Connor Hellebuyck being added to the mix. These players will be the main focus for a Golden Knights team looking to finish the job in 2026-27. Obviously, they'll add more to the team as Kelly McCrimmon will seek more depth pieces.
What does being the "main character" mean for the Vegas Golden Knights?
Well, you have your obvious trade candidates that you're exploring. As mentioned, Larkin and Hellebuyck will be front and center for all Golden Knights trade rumors. Fans know of the salary cap gymnastics that McCrimmon does to bring in the best players around.
However, that's not the only focus for Vegas. The looming extension talks for Pavel Dorofeyev and Rasmus Andersson await, with the Golden Knights looking to lock up some quality talent for the long term. Who's staying and who's going? That will also be the big focus as McCrimmon looks to shed some salary for these two players.
In fact, the players being traded could also be a main talking point. Adin Hill has been constantly mentioned as a potential off-loading piece for the Golden Knights. With his recent injury history and dismal play, it would be the perfect salary dump for McCrimmon.
Of course, this brings all the attention back to the oft-asked question: Are the Golden Knights evil? Well, the consensus would be that, yes, they are the bad guys. The Golden Knights have done some controversial things in the past, ranging from "salary cap circumvention" to players suddenly returning for the Stanley Cup playoffs. It feels like a lose-lose in many ways.
Still, I don't think that McCrimmon actually cares about who hates his team and who doesn't. All he cares about is the "main character energy" that Vegas has and winning a second Stanley Cup. Wouldn't it be nice to win another one soon and prove that you're truly the main characters?
