A familiar issue sinks the Golden Knights in a narrow loss to the Seattle Kraken

It's become an all-too-familiar story for the Golden Knights: allow the first few goals, claw out of the hole, try for overtime. And for a little while. it was kind of working. While Vegas had shown an ability to complete comebacks during their seven-game win streak earlier in the month, it seems that their puck luck has run out.

Despite fighting back to tie the game after trailing 2-0, Vegas allowed another goal early in the third and couldn't get another equalizer, falling to the Seattle Kraken 3-2. Time to check out what went wrong for Vegas.

Goaltending becomes the difference as Joey Daccord flusters Vegas yet again

As god as my witness, I do not want to see Joey Daccord against the Golden Knights ever again. The 29-year-old's uncanny ability to shut down Vegas struck yet again, as he allowed just two goals on 29 shots and locked down Vegas in the first and third periods en route to his 15th win of the season.

Vegas fans will remember Daccord's past history against the Golden Knights. A career save percentage over .930 and goals against average under two shows him as someone who's figured out this bunch to some degree; his 35-save shutout in the Winter Classic was a low point for Vegas. In fact, it's the second time he's pulled it off this season, as he also stopped 26 of 27 in an overtime win for Seattle way back in October.

Meanwhile, Akira Schmid followed up one of his best games with a rather poor one. Although I can't fault him for the power-play goal that put Seattle up 2-0, both the first and third goals were on poor puck tracking, as both saw him unable to react quickly enough to rebounds right in front of the net.

With Schmid looking inconsistent, Adin Hill looking outright awful, and Vegas' other options not doing much better, this team needs an answer in net. The problem is, the trade market isn't too great. It's time to see if Kelly McCrimmon can figure out another way out of this.

On a brighter note, Mitch Marner remembered to shoot again

For the second straight game, Marner delivered a goal for Vegas when desperately needed, sniping it on the power play for his 14th of the season.

After going quiet for a few games on the road trip, Marner's gearing up again before the Olympics, and after a rough stretch, Vegas has badly needed it. For his own sake, let's hope he has a big tournament for Canada. Hopefully, his momentum can rub off on Vegas after the break.

Up next, the Ducks tonight on the second half of a back-to-back. Perhaps February has better things in store for a streaky Golden Knights team.
