Well, it wasn't the best game, but it was certainly a recovery of sorts from whatever the Golden Knights attempted against Ottawa in their last game. On a cold Quebec night, Vegas surrendered a 1-0 lead and tied it late.
However, in the return of a familiar result, they lost in overtime for the first time in a few weeks. With a 1-2-1 road trip now in the books, let's take a look at what happened to VGK in a rough one. Hopefully, some of you got to make use of our travel guide to Montreal!
Pavel Dorofeyev does it himself
Doro must've heard people talking about his allegedly poor 5v5 play. Despite having a reputation as a power-play merchant of sorts, Pavel contributed both of Vegas's goals last night and virtually singlehandedly kept the Golden Knights in the game.
His first was a masterpiece; he forced a turnover within Vegas' zone, sprung a 2-on-1 with Braeden Bowman, then sniped it home, putting together the finest play he's ever had.

His second goal came just when Vegas needed it, late in the third and down 2-1. It was less of a solo effort, given it primarily came off a blue-line rocket from Ben Hutton, but either way, Dorofeyev was exactly where he needed to be, when he needed to be.
Those two even-strength goals extend Dorofeyev's team-leading goals total to 24, as he's put some clearance between himself and Tomas Hertl. Really, really hoping that extension gets done soon.
Akira Schmid steps up as best as he can
There's been a lot of discourse about Vegas' goalie situation this year. Schmid has been inconsistent, Carter Hart was awful before his injury, and needless to say, Adin Hill did not step up in the last few games.
However, amidst all of that, Schmid turned in one of his best games of the season on Tuesday night. Though his under-.900 save percentage might not reflect that, the Swiss Olympian made a multitude of huge stops throughout the night; I'll openly go on record as saying this game would've been 5-2 or 6-2 without him. While the eventual OTL made it not really matter, this massive stop on a redirect in overtime kept Vegas alive for a few more minutes:

Even taking the loss into consideration, the game-winning goal was off a breakaway in which the defense failed him; there's not much he could've done. Overall, maybe his best non-shutout this season, and a huge feather in his cap for an uncertain goalie situation.
Overall, not much else to say about that game. There were some rough penalty calls on Vegas, but the power play was also uncharacteristically bad, going 0-for-4 on the night. The offense didn't really feel like it showed up outside of Dorofeyev, with over 30 shots but not a lot of quality ones. Vegas now moves on to the hated Dallas Stars, returning home for a few more games before the Olympics.
