I feel like we haven't connected enough, dear reader. As a Vegas Golden Knights fan, it's my duty to know my people on a better level. That's what makes the game of hockey so great, too. You meet new friends and create bonds that last forever.
So, I would like for us to have a better relationship between each other. I will start by giving you three fun facts. Most of these involve the Golden Knights themselves, while one of these facts involves... Kid Rock?
Heck, all of these facts are hockey-related in a sense. That's the beauty of doing such activities. You learn about everyone's hockey backgrounds and understand where their fandom stems from. For me, it goes back by the decade.
So, allow me to tell you some personal fun facts, dear reader. These fans range from who my favorite Golden Knight is to what Golden Knights trips I've taken in the past.
Sit down and make yourself at home, my friend. I'll grab some hot cocoa!
1.) I hail from Romeo, Michigan
I come from a small Michigan town known as Romeo (although Romeo's starting to exaggerate the "small town" claim a little). Romeo is home to Kid Rock, who came from rich parents. In fact, Bob Ritchie is the literal embodiment of an Aqua Teen Hunger Force meme.
Remember, folks. The Vegas Hockey Knight site expert comes from the same town as the guy whose dad owns a dealership.
Overall, Romeo High School (my high school) has become a factory of an endless array of athletes. It doesn't matter if it's the next Pistons dancer, Dallas Cowboys cheerleader, or an NHL player. Romeo High School has become Michigan's little IMG Academy. That includes Nick Blankenburg of the Nashville Predators, who scored four goals and 12 assists with Nicolas Hague's new team (60 games played).
Is it a small town if the main high school keeps churning out mini-celebrities and athletes? Now, that's the big question.
2.) My favorite Vegas Golden Knight (past and present) is Marc-Andre Fleury
When the Golden Knights started in the NHL, they had a ragtag squad of "Misfits." Nobody expected this group to take over the league, especially the critics. However, Marc-Andre Fleury and company led the Golden Knights to the Stanley Cup Final in their inaugural season.
That's part of why he's my favorite Golden Knight of all time. He represented the proverbial chip on the team's shoulder. Flower was left for dead after the Pittsburgh Penguins went with Matt Murray as their starter. Lo and behold, he wins a Vezina Trophy with the Golden Knights in 2020-21, marking a renaissance with the new franchise.
3.) March 22 against the Dallas Stars is expected to be my third Golden Knights road trip
Last season, I went to see the Vegas Golden Knights take on the Detroit Red Wings. It was a homecoming of sorts since I grew up on Red Wings hockey. Ultimately, the old favorite won, 3-0, establishing that there ain't no school like the old school.
But that wasn't the first road trip I took. December 27, 2022 was when I took my first Golden Knights road trip. Ironically, the Detroit road trip was smoother since I didn't have to deal with drunk Gen-Z chicks whipping their hair in my face and screaming like monkeys. At least metro Detroiters know better.
Will Vegas finally win on a road trip I attend? Mark your calendars for March 22 because Vegas will play Dallas and I'm planning on going.
