The Vegas Golden Knights have skyrocketed both in popularity and in a competitive nature. They've drummed up a wave of controversy, with some of it not being their fault. Oh well, you can't win them all, I suppose.
But let's have some fun today. Let's look at some valuable Golden Knights traditions that fans adore and love. After all, it's not fun rooting for a hockey team if you don't have something to enjoy.
You might look at some of these things and think the following:
"Hmm... I never knew this little fact about the team. That's pretty cool!"
Some of you already know these facts off the top of your head. That's what makes being a Golden Knights fan great. The die-hards show up at T-Mobile Arena every home game, cheering on the boys in gold.
Now that's dedication.
What's also dedication is knowing these various traditions. Jump into these fun facts about these Golden Knights norms on your Monday!
1.) The Victory Flamingo was started by a fan
Drew Johnson is credited with the tradition of throwing flamingos on the ice after every Vegas Golden Knights victory. After the Golden Knights lost two games in a row, they needed a pick-me-up of sorts to get them through the slump. Lo and behold, the Victory Flamingo was born.
"I thought, what can we do to sort of rally the team a little bit, to show them some love and get things going."Dr
After that, it became a Las Vegas staple, used for every victory at T-Mobile Arena. Talk about flying high.
2.) John Wick Mode is actually from a movie
Do you know that song that plays every time the Golden Knights enter the ice? A large helmet drops from the ceiling and the lights dim. Then, it plays. It's got a badass theme to it, putting their opponents on their toes.
You can probably guess which movie I'm talking about here. Yes, it's from the John Wick movies, particularly the second chapter.
3.) The origin of the Misfits
The origin of the Misfits nickname is quite self-explanatory. It originated from various Golden Knights players feeling like they were discarded and forgotten. That led to the players having a chip on their shoulder and dominating the NHL from "Day F***** One."
The next thing you know, the Golden Knights made the Stanley Cup Final in their first season and won it all six years later. That motivation rallied a city and established Las Vegas as a bona fide hockey town. Not bad for a group of guys forgotten by other NHL teams.
