Ladies and gentlemen, it's officially Battle 4 Vegas day. It's time for the Vegas Golden Knights and the Las Vegas Raiders to battle to determine which team is superior in Sin City. No, the A's don't count despite John Fisher's insistence that he be a part of the event. Maybe try building a stadium first?
Anyways, the event's for a good cause. The event will benefit local charities in a softball format, pitting the most iconic players from each team. Of course, it's easy to find reputable players from the Golden Knights and the Raiders since they've become global brands. That's not a problem.
This will also be my first time attending such an event. As mentioned, I've been to Las Vegas Ballpark for countless Aviators games before. However, a softball game at the park? It's time to lose my Battle 4 Vegas virginity!
But what about meeting some of these players? Don't worry, dear reader! I have four names that come to mind, with two currently on the team and two who've played on the team. Here are four players I hope to meet.
1.) Jack Eichel
Now, I know this is a stretch considering that Eichel is larger than life. Scoring 28 goals and 94 points will elevate you to a new level never seen before. Like, being considered a top-five center in the NHL. That kind of level puts you out of reach from the general public.
But I would love nothing more than to get something signed by the superstar. Maybe my hat will work. Perhaps a baseball will do. Whatever the case, I hope Eichel is reading this and takes note.
2.) Logan Thompson
Thompson has proved himself outside of the Las Vegas realm as a starting goaltender. He elevated the Washington Capitals with a GAA of 2.49 and a save percentage of .910, clinching the Metropolitan Division for them.
Perhaps getting a picture and/or an autograph from the former Golden Knights netminder will happen here. It'll make my day if I get one with the goalie before the game starts.
3.) Reilly Smith
The former host of the Battle 4 Vegas event has made his triumphant return with the Golden Knights organization. He's back on a one-year deal and is ready to cause chaos with his best friend, William Karlsson.
What better way to get an autograph than from an Original Misfit? Heck, I hope he'll send William Karlsson my regards, along with his dog, Obi. I don't know if security will let me bring a dog treat for him, though...
4.) Deryk Engelland
Another Misfit, Engelland has made his cuts as a tough player. He would check opponents into the boards and get into fights. A lot of fights, to be exact.
Now? He's settled down and established himself in the Las Vegas community. In fact, he recently joined the Southern Nevada Sports Hall of Fame as a new inductee. How cool would it be to get a picture with a Hall of Famer?
