The city of Las Vegas might seem like a money vacuum for outsiders visiting. Numerous attractions (the Vegas Golden Knights being one) lure tourists, sapping their money dry like blood-sucking bats. The Raiders happen to be one of those must-see spectacles, too. That's what playing in a world-class facility like Allegiant Stadium gets you.

So what do the two teams do during the summertime? They play a charity softball game called the "Battle For Vegas." It's a contest between some of the best players from each team, vying for Sin City supremacy. The matchup also brings two passionate fanbases together for a good time, with one walking out of Las Vegas Ballpark with bragging rights.

This year's installation was no different, with the Golden Knights winning, 30-17. Jack Eichel captained a team consisting of stars old and new, including Brendan Brisson and Ryan Reaves. The current Toronto Maple Leafs enforcer hit two home runs, bringing nostalgia and smiles back to fans throughout the ballpark. The win made it three straight victories for the NHL team.

What makes this event special? How has it become a hallmark among Las Vegas citizens? Obviously, it starts with bringing two iconic franchises together. But there's more to the event that makes it special. Here's why it's become a tradition in Sin City.

The Battle of Vegas between the Vegas Golden Knights and Raiders gives back to the community

The origin of the Battle For Vegas was intended to give back to the community, picking a local charity to help out. "Original Misfit" Reilly Smith was the driver for this award-winning event, uniting an entire city for a softball game. In 2019, Smith set up his Golden Knights team for a battle against the Raiders, led by legendary NFL running back Marcus Allen.

It benefited numerous organizations including the Vegas Golden Knights Foundation. The contest helped tackle various obstacles in our society, donating to help with autism and boosting local health initiatives. There might be fun involved between the two franchises. However, there's a greater good that the event serves within the community. This year, the event benefited Best Buddies Nevada.

That's why fans should check out the Battle For Vegas next year. It's always a good time between two iconic teams, with both fanbases bringing their passion and zest. Plus, there are plenty of fun storylines associated with the spectacle. For example, will the Golden Knights make it four in a row? Who else will Jack Eichel find for his team? Stay tuned and make it down to Las Vegas Ballpark next year!
