Of course, it stinks that you have to give up a player of high character like Whitecloud. He was beloved by the fans and was a key stay-at-home defenseman for the Golden Knights during his Vegas residency. In fact, you can say that he helped the team bring home the Stanley Cup in 2023.
The good news is that Golden Knights fans will see more of the beloved defenseman in 2026-27. He'll play for the Flames once again, leading the younger Flames to a brighter future. But he's not the only focus for Vegas in the upcoming season.

What the Vegas Golden Knights should watch for while playing the Calgary Flames in 2026-27
A lot has changed with the Flames over the past year and it isn't just Andersson being traded. It's also prominent names like Blake Coleman and MacKenzie Weegar being offloaded for draft picks (to name a few) during this period. The goal is to usher in a new era of Flames hockey through drafting and developing talent.
While that hasn't necessarily worked out for some teams (see the Seattle Kraken as a prime example), the Flames desperately needed a roster overhaul. They were saddled with aging players that weren't going to keep the juices fresh and flowing. Therefore, a Stanley Cup window reset had to happen.
Now, you're looking at younger guys like Connor Zary, Joel Farabee, and Matt Coronato. These players are expected to carry the weight for the organization into the future. The objective? Get Calgary another Stanley Cup since the other one was from ages ago.
Veteran experience is key for the Golden Knights against the Calgary Flames
When dealing with any team going through a lengthy rebuild, one thing that a Stanley Cup contender must do is overwhelm them with experience. Make them uncomfortable in the neutral and defensive zones and force a turnover or two. Heck, make that three or more if needed.
That should be the objective for the Golden Knights when they play the Calgary Flames. The Flames aren't too experienced in handling high-pressure attacks like Vegas's. Veterans like Mark Stone, Mitch Marner, and William Karlsson are a few names that come to mind here, especially with all three having decorated histories against the Pacific Division rival.
Part of keeping a Pacific Division crown on your head involves feasting on the weaker competition. That's what the Golden Knights have done for years, whether it was the Kraken or the San Jose Sharks. Now, the Flames carry the mantle and will be prime feasting for Vegas in 2026-27.
