Wednesday's "Golden Knights" wisdom and how a simple talk reminded me of community

The Vegas Golden Knights have done an excellent job of bringing the community together. What can we learn as members of the Las Vegas community about this?

Even with the blessed life that Vegas Golden Knights fans live, not everything is perfect within the realm. I'm talking about the disheartening news, whether it's political banter, civil unrest, or overwhelming television personalities hogging the screen.

That sort of Debbie Downer content even reached me. How could I stand to see everything crumble around me and just take it? Even with the best hockey team in all of the land, it feels like everything is a sheer distraction. It all led to a boiling point where I got fed up and decided to flee forever.

"I can't take this anymore! I need a change of scenery! Everything is broken and won't be fixed!" I wanted to scream at the world to stop yelling.

We've all been there before. We've screamed about how we've reached our breaking points, whether it's with relationships, our jobs, or just life in general. It gets to us and we feel like there's no healthy escape for us to pursue.

That's when I got a phone call from one of my Golden Knights friends. She saw what I posted on Facebook and asked if everything was okay. I said, "Yeah, I'm just tired of modern life."

That led to deeper conversations about the Golden Knights and how they've helped the Las Vegas community as a whole. That included helping the city heal after the tragic events of October 1, 2017 (which was when I got back from Las Vegas). Suddenly, a paradigm shift happened and I realized how thankful I was to have an incredible community of hockey fans around me.

It was like an extended family of knowledgeable hockey fans, only without the Northern snobbery and elitism. Suddenly, I tempered my expectations and focused on doing a dry run of living abroad.

If I like it? Great! If not? There's always the Golden Knights waiting for me. Win-win situation, if you ask me. Be thankful that you're a fan of the greatest team around.
