Being a Vegas Golden Knights fan has been the biggest privilege of all. You make a Stanley Cup Final in your inaugural season and consistently make the Stanley Cup playoffs. On top of that, you have a Stanley Cup in your short, yet storied, history.
But winning a Stanley Cup isn't the only thing that I'm thankful for from this franchise. You know it could be much worse, especially in Nashville. They're looking to trade away veterans and let kids fresh from Romeo High School play (as if that "small town" school needed another big name aside from Kid Rock. Maybe get someone on the Golden Knights for a change).
I'm also thankful for an aggressive front office that does whatever it takes to win. It doesn't matter if it's getting Jack Eichel to work great from home or bringing Mitch Marner to Sin City. Kelly McCrimmon is determined to win at all costs. Golden Knights fans like myself couldn't be more thankful.
Most of all, I'm thankful for the Golden Knights community. In the wake of the tragic events surrounding October 1, 2017, the Golden Knights did something magical. They rallied a city together and turned Las Vegas into a sports town.
I know, a sports town! A city well-known for gambling becoming the premier destination for sports? Who woulda thunk? All of this wouldn't be possible if it wasn't for Bill Foley bringing a hockey team to the desert (which worked, by the way).
All of this has made me fortunate to write about one of the greatest sports teams around. Again, it could be much worse. You could be a cheerleader for an organization whose owner is... Jerry Jones. You could also be watching a hapless team in Nashville sign guys to fetch coffee for them. But that's not the case in Las Vegas. With that, I'm forever thankful.
