When your teammate goes down from a dirty cross-check, you need a hero to step up and avenge him. That's the American ideal that's as American as Rick Derringer and apple pie, you know. You must fight for what's right and fight for your lives. In fact, we need the theme for all heroes in the world.

Play that every time Mark Stone steps onto the ice because he deserved that. The lore behind Stone getting into a scuffle goes a little something like this. The Vegas Golden Knights are slaughtering the Seattle Kraken, 5-1. Victor Olofsson takes a nasty cross-check from Ben Meyers in the third period, knocking him out of the game.

The game turns into big-game hunting for the most forgetten expansion story of all time as they go after Trevor Connelly. But the third period saw Mark Stone drop the gloves with Brandon Montour and give it his all. He even dropped the defenseman in the fight, giving off "The Shining" vibes afterwards.

Still, Golden Knights fans didn't need a reminder that they had a real hero on their hands. Mark Stone has always been the proverbial superstar that rose to the occasion. Just look at all the "Expressive Mark Stone" moments that supercharged the team.

That was no different on Tuesday, as the Captain stood up for his fallen comrade and took on the evildoers from the Puget Sound. On top of that, he scored a shorthanded goal and added an assist in a resounding 6-2 victory.

Vegas Golden Knights fans already know that Mark Stone is the type of leader you'd want on your team

138 career goals with the Vegas Golden Knights. 262 career assists with the Golden Knights. Add the two and you have 400 career points with the Golden Knights. Stone is the third player in franchise history to hit this mark, with William Karlsson (403) and Jonathan Marchessault (417) hitting the mark as well.

Mind you, Stone is also aiming for the most points in Golden Knights history, where he's only 17 behind Marchessault. The expectation is that he'll break that mark and establish himself as "Mr. Golden Knight" by season's end. Believe it or not, that's a perfect designation for the Captain.

Look back at Game 5 of the Stanley Cup Final against the Florida Panthers. This was Stone's infamous hat trick game that delivered on Bill Foley's promises, finishing a story of going from tragedy to triumph.

Tuesday's moment became part of the Captain's legendary lore, cementing him as a Golden Knights legend. Seeing a new (and creepier) expression on Stone's face revealed a side fans had never seen. They saw a man determined to stick up for his teammates at any cost.

First, let's hope that Victor Olofsson's injury isn't as severe as we thought. Losing the winger would be absolutely devastating for the Golden Knights, specifically on the power play. However, let's also hope that the Golden Knights can feed off of Stone's energy again.
