Everyone expects Vegas Golden Knights general manager Kelly McCrimmon to make a big splash every summer. Every expert wants him to acquire a player like Dylan Larkin or Connor Hellebuyck. Or, that's what they think, at least. Wanting the Golden Knights to do something big is a different story.
Anyway, the Golden Knights didn't make too many big-time moves during the offseason. In turn, that has led said experts to think poorly of McCrimmon's offseason work. Furthermore, The Hockey News ranked the Golden Knights as having the 24th-best offseason in 2026.
Apparently, getting Victor Olofsson back and trading Pavel Dorofeyev to avoid his massive contract extension is a major no-no in the hockey world. That's especially worrisome when the other divisional rivals have gotten better or have young talent improving. But the publication does make some valid points.
The Sharks did add two veteran defensemen to give them a competitive edge. The Edmonton Oilers did get better defensively. Those two teans expect to be in the mix this season and the next, making them tough outs for the Golden Knights.
Still, this doesn't mean the Golden Knights should be bloody awful for the upcoming season. Yes, they have a new head coach who doesn't have any prior head coaching experience, Ryan Craig. But the Pacific Division still appears weak. That should give Golden Knights fans some relief as the 2026-27 season rolls into town.
