Alright, I know what you're thinking, dear reader. You watched Saturday's preseason game between the Vegas Golden Knights and the Los Angeles Kings and had one major question. How did Adin Hill do in net?
Well, the fallen netminder stopped 17 of 19 shots in a 4-2 win over the Kings. While that isn't going to stand out for the Golden Knights after a disastrous 2025-26 campaign, he was serviceable when called upon.
That's good news for the Golden Knights, who could use some goaltending assistance for the upcoming season. Last season was an unmitigated disaster in the net, with Vegas posting a team save percentage of .884, 28th in the NHL.
But that wasn't the only storyline from Saturday's win over the Kings. The prospects had the floor in Ontario, showcasing to the California crowd what they could do when given the floor (or, in this case, the ice).
I'm going to give you a spoiler alert for this article. Trevor Connelly is one of the prospects who are being talked about here. But two other prospects actually won the game for the Golden Knights on Saturday. Let's look at the heroes and the prospects who were the main characters.
Jackson Hallum showcased his incredible shot against the Los Angeles Kings
Jackson Hallum showed fans what he could do when given the opportunity. He showcased his wheels in the third period, speeding down the ice to score the go-ahead goal. He also scored the empty-net goal that sealed the deal for the Golden Knights, giving them a 4-2 win over Los Angeles.
While he isn't expected to crack the 23-man roster for Vegas, Hallum did set himself up nicely for his NHL future. If he continues to set himself up for success through solid growth and repetition, he'll shock plenty of people within the Golden Knights' organization. Just keep those handles up and watch him thrive.
Viliam Kmec kicks things off for the Vegas Golden Knights
Another prospect who stood out on Saturday was none other than Viliam Kmec. The Golden Knights youngster scored the first goal in the first period. He also assisted on Hallum's go-ahead goal in the third period, adding more stock to his NHL portfolio.
Like Hallum, the defenseman doesn't have an actual shot at cracking the Golden Knights' roster to start the season. However, he can make noise with the Silver Knights this season by building on his 2025-26 campaign (four goals and 12 assists in 65 games).
Trevor Connelly's first look wasn't exactly the most inspiring
Trevor Connelly didn't exactly excite the Golden Knights' faithful on Saturday. The former first-round pick only had three shots on goal with no points. That won't cut the mustard for the Golden Knights during the regular season, especially since they're looking for scoring wingers.
However, not all was lost since he actually got shots on goal. He should get some more looks before the season starts, when he'll get another chance to thrive. Watch for him in the upcoming games and see if he can stand out in the moment.
