October 8, 2025.
Mark it on your calendars, folks. That's when the Vegas Golden Knights will have their "Opening Knight" against the Los Angeles Kings. It'll be complete with a "Gold Carpet" event with the biggest stars of the Golden Knights organization.

Last season, the Kings were a proverbial thorn in Vegas's side, going 3-1-0 against the Golden Knights. That included two blowout wins at Crypto.com Arena, where Los Angeles outscored Vegas, 11-5.
But that's not all. The San Jose Sharks will host their "Opening Night" the next night against... the Golden Knights. Cue up the memories of 2019 and all intolerable bellhops in the Bay Area because the drama will get intense.
Opening Night in San Jose is the very next night against... VGK.

So, it's an opening night home/road back to back. https://t.co/byCWOGWvss
Last season, the Golden Knights swept the season series against the Sharks. Vegas outscored San Jose by a combined score of 17-8, blowing them out of the water in their rivalry. Looks like "Baby Shark" was no more for that year.
This will be a California-fied start to the 2025-26 season. It'll also be vital to get off on the right foot in 2025-26. The Golden Knights struggled mightily against the Kings, failing to adjust to Los Angeles's suffocating style. They might have Mitch Marner in tow now. However, that doesn't mean the Kings will be easy.
As for the Sharks? Well, they're a young, growing team lead by Macklin Celebrini. The Boston University alumni looks to take the mantle of this generation's "generational talent" from Connor Bedard and run with it. Scoring 25 goals and 38 assists in 70 games will get you one step closer to doing that.
Overall, the start of the season will be vital for a Golden Knights team seeking revenge. It doesn't matter if it's against the Kings or those pesky Oilers. The goal is to get it done. The good news? They've gotten off to incredible starts in the first three seasons under Bruce Cassidy.
Season | Record in their first 15 games |
---|---|
2022-23 | 13-2-0 |
2023-24 | 12-2-1 |
2024-25 | 9-4-2 |
Is it October 8 yet? I have an appointment for some Vegas Golden Knights hockey!
