'Tis the season to be jolly! At least, that's how the saying goes. The Vegas Golden Knights have plenty to be jolly about during the Christmas break. They're in first place in the Pacific Division and are back to their usual dominant selves.
Thank goodness that the holiday break is here because the Golden Knights can carry that momentum like they're delivering presents. Considering how hurt and injured Vegas is, it's a welcome sign. No more chestnuts roasting on an open fire here (sorry Adin Hill).
But let's dive further into the history of the Golden Knights, shall we? I know that there isn't much to delve into since we're in Year Nine. However, it's worth seeing who the jolliest people were in Vegas.
That means looking at three Original Misfits for this exercise. Who are these jolly ol' Misfits from the Island of Misfits? What made them so holly and jolly? Let's meet the three Golden Knights that raised everyone's spirits every day, including Christmas.
1.) Jonathan Marchessault
I mean, being a Conn Smythe winner already puts you on the list. Marchessault went on a generational run in 2023, scoring 13 goals and 12 assists. In turn, the Golden Knights fulfilled promises by winning their first Stanley Cup in franchise history.
But the fun doesn't stop there, though. The Original Misfit holds numerous franchise records, ranging from the most franchise goals (192) to the most franchise points (417). It's no secret that the winger has impacted the Golden Knights positively.
Yes, the ending to his Golden Knights career was sour and undesirable. However, he still remains one of the most important Golden Knights around, providing scoring and a power play presence.
2.) William Karlsson
Everyone knows William Karlsson as the resident Golden Knights "Dancing Queen." But did you know he's second all-time in points scored (403)? He also has the most single-season goals (43 in 2017-18), making him one of the most reputable Misfits around.
Even as Father Time comes in and withers Karlsson away, he's still one of the fan favorites because of his relatability and kind personality. Who knows? Maybe we'll get a retirement tour from the Swedish center once his career winds down.
3.) Shea Theodore
The franchise leader in all-time assists (289) has quietly etched himself in the annals of Golden Knights history. He's made a living as a solid puck-moving defenseman who's grown into a solid two-way defenseman.
While he hasn't been the healthiest player around, the age of hockey has evolved to focus on offensive production from defensemen. Theodore has answered the call here, providing timely rebounds and setting his teammates up for excellent scoring opportunities.
