Sunday thoughts about... streaks

I nearly typed in steaks. Hahaha.

It's nice to have a three-game winning streak, eh? The Vegas Golden Knights have that after demolishing the Pittsburgh Penguins on Saturday, 6-2. They've scored 17 goals in that span, making them one of the most dangerous NHL teams right now. Life's good when you're sitting atop the mountain, eh?

Meanwhile, the Philadelphia Eagles are on a four-game losing streak. Jalen Hurts is out and the team is underperforming or hurt, whether it's Saquon Barkley or Cooper DeJean. Perhaps staying away from those overpaid cheerleaders in Dallas will help DeJean (seriously, pay the Vegas Vivas and the Vegas Belles $75 per hour since they're entertaining for a championship-caliber team).

If you go west of Las Vegas, there's an NFL team in Southern California that has lost its first five games of the season. That would be the Los Angeles Chargers, who've been bestowed the hopes and dreams of playing a Super Bowl. The only problem? Justin Herbert was drained of his talent like he was an NBA player in Space Jam by Madison Beer. Cue the hot dog dance in the Chargers' locker room.

Ahh, that's more like it. It represents the Mickey Mouse team that are the Los Angeles Chargers. Anyway, you're in a much better position than these teams if you're a Golden Knights fan. You have stable ownership and a front office that actually lives up to the hype instead of posting TikToks about your girlfriend. Long live the eternal distraction that is the NFL.

But the Golden Knights will have a massive test on Tuesday that could disrupt that winning streak. The Tampa Bay Lightning have been great for the longest time possible, reloading like Vegas. When Steven Stamkos joined Jonathan Marchessault in Honky Tonk Land, Lightning fans lost their minds. But Jake Guentzel has carried the load, while Nashville... hasn't.

Can the Vegas Golden Knights build momentum off their current streak?

Say the Golden Knights happen to lose on Tuesday. That three-game winning streak is snapped and Vegas takes an early season loss to a quality team. Are the alarm bells going to sound off in Las Vegas? Not really and that's for a couple of reasons.

One, the season just started and there isn't much to watch, aside from Jack Eichel's 100-point pursuit. This is the month when the Olympic gold medalist is on fire, as proven by his four goals and 11 assists. Second, Tampa Bay's a good team, so it isn't too much to sweat.

Would it be nice to beat them? Absolutely. It proves that head coach Ryan Craig can beat a Stanley Cup contender. It also builds his confidence as a head coach, which is something the Golden Knights need. But it won't be the end of the world if Vegas loses on Tuesday/

But it isn't the end of the world. If you lose on Tuesday, just build another streak and everything will be hunky-dory. The Blues and the Blue Jackets aren't the most sterling teams in the NHL right now. That could give Vegas the ammo needed to go on another streak (or make it even longer).
