Sunday thoughts about... soccer on the N64

Yes, we're talking about a soccer game on a hockey site. Yes, it carries some relevancy to what's happening in the World Cup.

You know, I got home from doing some content on Fremont Street when I had a random thought. No, it didn't concern Juho Piiparinen and his impact in the lineup. Instead, it had everything to do with this (especially since it's World Cup season right now).

No, Ronaldinho Soccer doesn't exist as a purchasable copy in the United States. Instead, it's a hack of International Superstar Soccer 64, which is a game for the Nintendo 64. I don't know why I suddenly thought of this game, yet it randomly popped into my head.

So, I'm thinking about how similar soccer is to hockey in some aspects. Imagine a gigantic field where you try and score on a goalie. You're working with your team and ensuring that you don't go offside. You get that with hockey, only it's played on a sheet of ice.

Who would've thought that soccer would be such a compelling sport? I'm watching Cape Verde go toe-to-toe with Argentina before the FIFA gods decided to move their boy, Lionel Messi, on to the next round. Oh well, there's always another time for a big upset.

Ironically, soccer has me anxiously waiting for the Vegas Golden Knights to return. Watching this game unfold before my very eyes is refreshing for the soul and leaves me wanting more. It's like you're playing an actual game of Ronaldinho Soccer 64.
