Sunday thoughts about... Marc-Andre Fleury's $25 million move

Wouldn't it be nice to live in one of these?

News broke that Vegas Golden Knights goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury sold his $25 million mansion to real estate developer Jeffrey Soffer and his wife, Colleen. The Original Misfit closed on his house last month, indicating a new chapter in his life. Every Las Vegas resident knows Fleury's story and how he became one of the most beloved Golden Knights in franchise history.

He spent four seasons with Vegas, setting numerous records along the way. That included the most career shutouts in Golden Knights history (23), the best career GAA (2.41), and the best career save percentage (.917). They also know his backstory behind how he got into the Golden Knights organization.

Fleury was picked up in the 2017 NHL Expansion Draft after the Pittsburgh Penguins left him unprotected. MInd you, this is the same team that's inducting him into their franchise's Hall of Fame. But the move was meant to make way for the younger Matt Murray, who impressed in his short time with the Penguins.

Alas, Pittsburgh didn't make another Stanley Cup Final while the Golden Knights made it in their inaugural season. A major part of that run was because of the Original Misfit, who had a stellar opening campaign with Vegas. Here, he posted a GAA of 2.24, a save percentage of .927, and four shutouts.

But it brings up a broader point about mansions. Imagine if you hit the lottery in life and got to live in one of these obnoxious forts of solitude? You would have all the space in the world and could have amazing parties. However, one can bet that this wouldn't be the case for the legendary goaltender. He doesn't seem like the type of guy to go overboard with such things.

Imagine if you lived life like Marc-Andre Fleury of the Vegas Golden Knights did inside of a big mansion

Here's a fun little story for you. Once upon a time, I was a young kid who had stars in his eyes. I was enamored with Hollywood life for some reason and was in awe of the obnoxious idea of being a world-famous actor or celebrity. Hey, maybe partying with Sean Combs would be a fun time.

Then, I stumbled upon Las Vegas. I moved to the city and fell in love with the community. The reasons ranged from a passionate city that rallied around the Golden Knights to simply getting away from a snowy region filled with misery and pain. That's when I realized that simply having a community to turn to mattered more.

We live in a world filled with plastic influencers and personalities. They've inflitrated everything, ranging from Barstool Sports to the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders, essentially dumbing our children down into being Sephora zombies. The goal? Get into a cushy mansion and flaunt said obnoxious lifestyle.

These people are soulless husks that don't care for the little cat in the tree or the old lady crossing the street. Perhaps it's better to have the mansion and be humble like Marc-Andre Fleury. I just hope that the Original Misfit isn't doing "#GRWM" videos on TikTok.
