The goal? Bring another Stanley Cup to Las Vegas. Plain and simple.
Of course, this came after Adin Hill completely collapsed due to injuries and poor play. Suddenly, the Golden Knights were looking for a new No. 1 once Bruce Cassidy was relieved of his duties. Which man could step up to the plate?
Why, that would be none other than Hart, who took the reins after Cassidy was relieved and ran with the ball. Everything was going swimmingly well until the Stanley Cup Final came along.
That's when his stats plummeted. Suddenly, he allowed four goals a game through Game 6, including a third-period collapse, resulting in the momentum shifting entirely in Carolina's favor. While that isn't entirely his fault, there are lingering questions about his performance. How will the goaltender fare in the second year of his Vegas residency?

This isn't actually a question as much as it's a concern. How will Hart's mental state be after a disastrous Stanley Cup Final? Granted, it wasn't entirely his fault, since his defensive structure in front of him let him down. But fans are worried that he might've suffered a setback mentally.
The defensive structure hasn't changed much, aside from Parker Wotherspoon coming in for Kaedan Korczak. Therefore, the onus falls on defensemen like Rasmus Andersson to keep him upright.
If not, Hart will struggle. The Golden Knights' defensive structure is set around easing the pressure on the goaltender. If the defensive structure collapses, that puts Hart in a compromised position. Of course, he must rely on his quickness and mobility to make key saves. However, the defense in front of him can't fall apart like they did in the Stanley Cup Final.
Predicting Carter Hart's statline with the Vegas Golden Knights in 2026-27
Don't expect Carter Hart to be a Vezina Trophy candidate this season. He's not going to put up Marc-Andre Fleury-type numbers with the Golden Knights, barring a miracle. Still, that's not what he should be expected to do at all.
The premise is getting the defense around him to hold strong. That's done by limiting gaps and high-danger chances, keeping Hart comfy and cozy. As mentioned, Hart will go as far as the defensive structure takes him in 2026-27.
With that, I'm predicting that he'll have a GAA of 2.75 and a save percentage of .895. He'll add two shutouts to the mix, making him serviceable throughout the 2026-27 season. Again, those stats aren't eye-opening, to say the least. But if he doesn't suffer a full-on collapse like Adin Hill did in 2025-26, that will be enough to keep Vegas afloat for another deep playoff run.
