You'd think that Aaron Judge could get a few pointers from Jack Eichel and Jack Hughes on being clutch. The two American hockey players know a thing or two about showing up when the stakes are raised. But nope!
That wasn't the case as the United States fell to Venezuela in the World Baseball Classic, 3-2. Sure, Bryce Harper hit a two-run homer that tied the game. You would've thought that the Americans had a chance. But...
A ninth-inning RBI double from Eugenio Suarez did the deed and the United States' warpath towards sports hegemony was halted. Oh well, at least you have your gold medal as you stuck it to those pesky Canadians.
It makes me thankful that I'm a hockey fan. When you look at the American hockey team (both genders), you can't help but feel like they've built something excellent. The opponent might have Sidney Crosby, Connor McDavid, and Nathan MacKinnon. But did that really matter in the end?
The American hockey teams know how to be clutch at the right time. You can rely on Hughes, Eichel, or Hanifin to carry the play and bank goals when called upon. You can also rely on Connor Hellebuyck to stop an incoming Canadian attack and keep the United States in the game.
Perhaps Judge can put on some skates and hang out with the American hockey teams. Maybe he can learn to not whiff on an incoming puck. I mean, Eichel can certainly feed him some softballs, right? Happy St. Patrick's Day, everyone! Hopefully, the American luck doesn't run out.
