Mitch Marner sitting alone atop this statistic will have Maple Leafs fans seething

Did you know that Hockey Reference's page about Mitch Marner shows that his nickname (or one of them) is Bruno Marns? I found it funny and ironic, considering that Bruno Mars literally got a Nevada State Flag not too long ago. Not only that, but he had a street named after him! How cool is that for Marner??

Anyways, entering the 2025-26 season, Mitch Marner was subjected to an endless beating about his playoff failures. 13 goals and 50 assists in 70 career postseason games with the Toronto Maple Leafs would have plenty of people believing that this was the case.

But Game 6 against the Utah Mammoth happened. Suddenly, the tide was shifting in that narrative with two goals and an assist. Then came Friday's game against the Anaheim Ducks, where he scored a hat trick and added an assist.

Now? That "reputation" as a playoff choker completely vanished. Instead, you're getting a playoff performer who's dominating the landscape. Oh, and there's one more thing that'll make a Maple Leafs fan's head explode.

Mitch Marner currently leads the NHL in postseason points with 13

Yes, you read that right, dear reader. Entering Saturday, Mitch Marner leads ALL NHL players in points with 13. Six goals and seven assists to lead them all. In fact, those six goals are tied for first place entering Saturday's competition.

Let's check in live to see how Maple Leafs fans are handling this tidbit of news, shall we?

Just as I suspected. Boy, people hate a winner, I guess.

But in all seriousness, it's proof that players like Marner can perform in winning environments. All they need are balanced attacks, a solid locker room, and a competent head coach to get the job done. That has been the case for Marner, especially since John Tortorella came on board.

"People give him sh*t all the time about playoffs and this and that and I don't think it bothers him a bit."

It must be a Toronto thing, huh (to lose, that is)?

It also raises questions about what's in the water over in Ontario. I mean, yeah, make your little jabs about Bruce Cassidy being fired midseason. But what about the other side of things? You know what I mean with the general manager being fired and all.

Marner will continue to shine for the Vegas Golden Knights because of his support system

Looking at the postseason goals record, you can see that Marner is currently tied for first. However, you'll also know that Brett Howden is also atop that leaderboard. In fact, two of those goals came on shorthanded opportunities with both assists by... Mitch Marner.

It's a testament to what happens when you actually have a support system around you. Again, he never had that in Toronto when he was with the Maple Leafs. Toronto had a top-heavy forward group that couldn't produce when called upon. I mean, why do you think that Auston Matthews is re-evaluating his options?

That's why Marner made the right choice by going to Las Vegas instead of sticking around with the Maple Leafs. There's a difference between firing your head coach to send a message and firing your general manager to fix a thousand problems, you know.
