Mitch Marner has been at the forefront of the Toronto Maple Leafs' ire since he left the Original Six franchise last summer. The former "Core Four" member faced an endless amount of scrutiny from Maple Leafs fans and media members alike, with words ranging from "cowardly" to, well, expletives.
That has piqued the interest of Marner's agent, Darren Ferris, who had some choice words for his client's former organization. Let's just say that the agent didn't hold back on butchering the Original Six franchise on The PuckPedia Hockey Show.

That has ranged from not having performance bonuses in his entry-level contract (yikes) to being the literal scapegoat for all of Ontario.

To make matters worse, then-general manager Lou Lamoriello gave Auston Matthews a $2.85 million performance bonus. That irked Marner to another level, prompting an idea of favortism within the organization.

If you thought that was the end of the tyrannical regime from the Maple Leafs, well, guess again. Ferris also talked about how there was never a trade to the Carolina Hurricanes in place, but rather a suggestion for Marner to go there. On top of that, he wouldn't just consider Vegas as the primary Western Conference team to go to and even dismissed potential tampering claims.
Overall, it was the proverbial mic drop that credited George McPhee, Kelly McCrimmon, and the Vegas Golden Knights as the superior franchise. It highlights the floating misinformation that came from Marner's old flame, showing the sheer dishonesty that McCrimmon and company would never amount to.
Just look at what happened to both organizations in 2025-26. The Maple Leafs couldn't even make the Stanley Cup playoffs while the Golden Knights turned a bad start into a blazing run, coming two games short of their second Stanley Cup. The kicker? Mitch Marner made the Stanley Cup Final in his first season.
It might not get through Southern Ontario yet. Heck, the realization that Marner wasn't the problem at all will continue to elude Toronto until the end of time. But it's apparent that the Golden Knights winger wasn't the issue in the grand scheme. It's no wonder that he soared to new heights in his first season of his Vegas residency.
