Mitch Marner can't seem to shake his critics, no matter what he does. They talk about how he doesn't "do enough" in the big moments. But when he proves them wrong? Well, they move the goalposts. Even Marner's agent has had enough of these trolls!
Not even making the Stanley Cup Final was good enough for them! Like, look at what he did during the Stanley Cup playoffs! He led the NHL in points with 29! Yet, these delusional cretins will pull anything from their arses to try and comfort themselves at night. Imagine being from Montreal and having to deal with these cavemen in Canada...
Anyway, it seems that Marner achieved a lot during that Stanley Cup Final run. Those 29 points were the most in a single postseason run for the Golden Knights, ignited by the spirit of John Tortorella's short temper.
But there are three more achievements that Marner can pull off this season (and beyond!). That way, he can stuff a Maple Leaf fan's crusty sock straight into their mouths and quiet them for good. Here's what the former "Core Four" member can do to put all those naysayers permanently to bed.
3.) Marner can break the single-season assists record
Marner's partner-in-crime, Jack Eichel, currently holds the single-season record for the most assists (66 in 2024-25). He also had a stellar 2025-26 campaign with 63 assists, putting him within striking distance of his previous mark. But Marner wasn't far behind last season himself.
The former "Core Four" member had 56 assists in his first year of his Vegas residency, being tied for 17th in the NHL. Marner has the potential to break his teammate's record and stand alone, showing that it wasn't his fault all along. The funny thing is that he can do it, especially since he worked great with Tomas Hertl last season.
2.) Score 30+ goals
Marner has only scored 30 or more goals twice in his illustrious career. That would be 2021-22 (35) and 2022-23 (30), where he played 72 or more games in both seasons. Still, that has led some people to talk about how he's not scoring enough goals to help the Golden Knights.
Not that this is his role, mind you. But the Golden Knights traded away Pavel Dorofeyev this summer and they need some people to step up. That could mean that Marner shoots the puck more instead of making the extra pass. Who knows? That could also silence some critics.
1.) Win the Stanley Cup
The obvious one. Getting to the Stanley Cup Final and leading the NHL in postseason points (29) was enough to quell some chirps from those pesky Toronto trolls. But some still won't shut up.
Imagine what a Stanley Cup in Marner's hands would do for the entire Ontario region, sans Ottawa. It would leave the entire region flooded in salty tears for years (Rhymes Like Dimes!). Maybe pass those tears down to Lake Mead since it desperately needs it, eh?
