Kelly McCrimmon hints at Adin Hill's interesting future with the Golden Knights

Some Vegas Golden Knights fans won't like what Kelly McCrimmon said on Wednesday about Adin Hill's Vegas residency...

Much has been made about Adin Hill's Vegas residency since he got a six-year contract extension in March 2025. The Vegas Golden Knights netminder has seen his stats regress tremendously, posting a GAA of 3.04 and a save percentage of .871.

There's also the advanced stats that tell the shocking tale of a catastrophic downfall. His goals saved above expected (-14.2) was the worst on the Golden Knights, along with his GAA better than expected (-0.57). However, that's not stopping general manager Kelly McCrimmon from instilling some confidence in his netminders.

"I feel really good about our goaltending."

To go one step further, McCrimmon instilled confidence in Hill himself. He talked about how he was going to have the biggest bounceback season of his career in 2026-27 (okay, not really to that effect).

"I think Adin Hill is going to bounce back. I think he’s a good goalie who had a tough season. We need to get him to revert to form."

Some Adin Hill superfans will hail the Calgary native's shrine and post it on TikTok. But for others, it seems like there's a more appropriate reaction to seeing Hill return to the Golden Knights' crease next season.

That's usually me on a Friday night. But that reaction will be common among Golden Knights fans for bringing Hill back for another year. After all, you don't leave Carl Lindbom hanging after he just signed a three-year contract extension.

Is it worth trading Adin Hill right now?

Here's the thing. It's complicated to trade a $6.25 million cap hit that has a 10-team no-trade list. Combine that with the aforementioned statistical decline and the lower-body injuries and things get dicier. Sure, there might be a team that'll take more salary on, similar to what happened with the Detroit Red Wings and Keegan Kolesar. However, the problems are still apparent with Hill.

Therefore, McCrimmon had to hold a press conference for the former Stanley Cup hero and state how he had confidence in him. Sure, fans might not be high on the netminder. But that's the reality that fans must accept.

The good news? Kelly McCrimmon is a creative general manager. He's offloaded players or let players who got a bigger payday than expected or more years than expected (i.e., Jonathan Marchessault) walk and watched them flounder. That could be the case with Hill, only with the floundering part coming early.

If Hill rebounds? Well, that'll make him much more attractive in a potential scenario. Either that, or the Golden Knights will hold onto the beleaguered netminder and watch him flourish. Who knows? He might move one step closer to regaining the fan's trust.
