You know, I didn't really want to go to the Vegas Golden Knights practice on Monday. I just wanted to sleep after an exhausting Christmas weekend in Los Angeles. I had one of those philosophical moments where I contemplated life as it was.

"Should I keep going or should I pack it in?"

"Should I nap until noon and hop into my work?"

"What if we're really meant to serve our cat overlords?"

These questions usually happen after going to California. That's especially true after watching the Kings wipe the floor with the Ducks for a mere travel guide. But hey, you make these sacrifices to make it big, you know? Nobody said that life was meant to be easy.

Alas, I went because doing this gig is never easy. There's a bigger purpose beyond me, starting with the people (or as The Rock would say, the millions *and millions*). So, let's dive into some notes from Monday's practice as we roll into the New Year. What went down for the Golden Knights? What was the big news surrounding a certain superstar?

Jack Eichel returns to practice in a red no-contact jersey

Vegas Golden Knights fans like myself have been going through it lately. We've been dealt a bad hand regarding players being injured and the team getting off to a slow start. However, fans were delighted to see a familiar face return to the ice: Jack Eichel.

The Golden Knights megastar graced numerous fans at City National Arena with his presence, donning a red no-contact jersey for Vegas. The team's leading scorer (41 points) will add a new dimension to the overall structure for the Golden Knights, giving them more oomph in many areas.

Carter Hart gets ready for his fourth consecutive start against the Minnesota Wild

One player who should benefit immensely from Jack Eichel's return is Carter Hart. The last three games, the former Flyers goaltender has allowed four or more goals. Part of that has been either bad puck luck on horrible defensive zone giveaways.

Now? The netminder should have his blanket back in the net, keeping him warm and protected from oncoming offensive players. That's good news for Golden Knights fans everywhere, who are looking to see his talents unleashed upon the hockey world.

Alexander Holtz stays behind with Eichel and does some work

After putting up a solid performance against the Colorado Avalanche, Alexander Holtz stayed behind for the Golden Knights after practice. A goal and an assist are always something to build upon, especially when you've had your fair share of offensive struggles.

He stuck around with the superstar to work on his handles and other mechanics, getting some solid tips along the way. Still, time is running out for him to stick around. If he can get another great performance like he did on Saturday, watch out for the Swedish winger.
