Golden Knights legend gets a touching tribute from the Pittsburgh Penguins

A Vegas Golden Knights netminder will finish his career on a PTO with the Pittsburgh Penguins. It's a kind gesture for a one-of-a-kind goalie.

Marc-Andrey Fleury is such a legendary figure in the NHL sphere that he has built incredible careers with two franchises. One of them is the Vegas Golden Knights, where he won his only Vezina Trophy. In four seasons, the former first-overall pick posted a GAA of 2.41 (his career-best with any team), a save percentage of .917 (again, a career-best with any team), and 23 shutouts.

That's not even mentioning the numerous franchise records he holds. There are so many that it'll make your head hurt.

However, the legend is getting a curtain call with the Pittsburgh Penguins. How, you ask? How can a "retired" man go back on the ice again?

Well, he's getting a PTO with the Penguins.

Look at that man with his three Stanley Cups. He looks refined and glorious.

If you look at Fleury's career as a goaltender, it's unparalleled in the modern landscape. Aside from the three Stanley Cups he won, he also has four All Star Games to his name (Rhymes Like Dimes!). He also has an All-Star Team nomination, adding to a decorated career as a goalie.

Statistically, Fleury dominated the NHL landscape. He has a career GAA of 2.60, a career save percentage of .912, and 76 shutouts. All of this happened in a 21-year span, where he made a name for himself before the Salary Cap Era... and during the Salary Cap Era.

Marc-Andre Fleury's touching gesture with the Pittsburgh Penguins is well-deserved

It's not easy making the NHL landscape. You're pressured with keeping up with the league's faster pace while taking on thousands of hockey players fighting for that same dream. That's what makes Fleury's career even more outstanding.

Being a first-overall pick requires you to outwork thousands of teenagers vying for the big leagues. You must practice your craft, eat your vitamins, and say your prayers (like Hulk Hogan). Fleury got the first part down to a tee.

However, you must also nurture that opportunity and make the most of it. Luckily, three Stanley Cups (partially because of a legendary player in Sidney Crosby) and a Vezina Trophy came with an incredible career. All of this is topped by an honorary PTO from his original club.

Would it have been nice if it were the Golden Knights? Yes. However, Fleury did start his career in Pittsburgh and was essential in helping them win Stanley Cups. In fact, he proved himself when he was left for dead by his original club. But getting an invitation to close your final chapter with them? That trumps everything.
