People have been hating on the Vegas Golden Knights for quite some time. They hate Vegas for making controversial hires, allegedly shanking their players to put them on LTIR (or whatever conspiracy theory is cooked up), and for simply winning. That's no different with the latest ESPN piece, which asks the question.
While plenty of high-ranking NHL executives and officials agree with the statement (as does ESPN), one Original Misfit came to the rescue. His name is none other than William Carrier, the fourth-line Carolina Hurricanes forward who just won his second Stanley Cup.
"No one thought it was going to work there, and it did. It's unbelievable what they do for our game. They're not evil. They're good for hockey."William Carrier
Looking back on Carrier's legacy, he was forever forged as an Original Misfit who made two Stanley Cup Final appearances and won it all in 2023. He was well-versed in hitting, amassing 1,116 total hits with the Golden Knights in seven seasons.
Seeing a Misfit stick up for his former organization is always refreshing. You always want to see your former players put you over, whether it's in situations involving a controversial media brand or from other outlets. That's certainly the case with Carrier, who's seen Las Vegas go through its ups and downs as a hockey town.
Besides, many fans would do anything to see their teams be as cutthroat as the Golden Knights. Like, the Maple Leafs just hired Jim Hiller, the man who routinely lost to the Edmonton Oilers. They've become the media darling and a global brand, yet they're the biggest losers on the planet (Eagles fans know a rival team similar to that).
Compare that to the Golden Knights, who just made their third Stanley Cup Final in their first nine seasons. It's unsurprising that William Carrier is sticking up for his former team, especially since they've been successful. All hail our overlords, Bill Foley and Kelly McCrimmon!
