When the Vegas Golden Knights traded Pavel Dorofeyev to the New York Rangers, the premise was to get draft capital. Okay, the honest goal was to avoid paying him $11 million AAV. But you still get the point. Kelly McCrimmon has many reasons for making this trade, even if it's controversial.

However, there's a ramification from doing this, starting with a rumored trade target for Vegas. Frank Seravalli talked about the Dorofeyev aftermath on Frankly Hockey, mentioning how the Golden Knights are trying to figure out the logistics for a potential trade with the Red Wings.

"They're mathing out, how do we keep Rasmus Andersson and go after Dylan Larkin, I just don't know what Steve Yzerman can get from Vegas, what moves the needle."

In short, it's impossible for the Golden Knights to afford Dylan Larkin's services. Danny Webster of the Las Vegas Review-Journal highlighted this problem, pointing out various issues such as Tomas Hertl's trade list and William Karlsson being a team staple. These factors make it tough for the Golden Knights to navigate a potential deal with the Red Wings.

But trading Dorofeyev to the Rangers? That makes the Larkin trade even more difficult. The Red Wings would love to have a young winger like Dorofeyev on board, especially since they're also looking to add more scoring to the mix. Now? That becomes more complicated.

Just look at the Minnesota Wild as a perfect example. Red Wings general manager Steve Yzerman asked for Matt Boldy in the deal and the Wild turned him down. Yzerman is proving to be one tough customer, making it nearly impossible for teams like Vegas and Minnesota to meet his demands.

As fun as the Dylan Larkin trade rumors have been, it might be best to wait until the trade deadline approaches. That way, the prices cool off and the Golden Knights can have a better shot. Of course, that's contingent on multiple factors like the Red Wings contending and more, so don't hold your breath.
