You always love to see former Vegas Golden Knights succeed. That's especially true when they return from a complex knee injury and score a goal. It doesn't matter if it's Ryan Reaves scoring more goals at one point than Connor McDavid or Laurent Brossoit returning from a complicated surgery. You know we need some good news during these trying times.
Speaking of Brossoit, he happened to score a goal on Friday night. Yes, that's right, ladies and gentlemen. We got a goalie goal. The culprit? Why, it was none other than the former Golden Knights netminder who scored, doing so for the Rockford IceHogs.
After 500+ days away from pro hockey due to a complex knee injury, Laurent Brossoit just ripped a GOALIE GOAL in his 3rd game back 🤯🔥 pic.twitter.com/GykBWAkkyx

With the net pulled, Brossoit fired the puck down the ice and over the defenders. The IceHogs were up by a score of 4-3 when it happened and the former Golden Knights sealed the deal. Rockford wins, 5-3, and everyone west of Chicago goes home happy.
I also love this little quote straight from the recap. It reads like poetry straight from Cheap Trick.
"With time ticking down, the Admirals pulled their goaltender for the extra attacker. Laurent Brossoit from his crease sent the puck 200 feet and into the yawning cage to push the score to 5-3."Rockford IceHogs website
What's more impressive is how he fired it. He scored it from behind his own net. His own net! I practice soccer kicks near my own net and it's tough to nail those shots. It requires you to master numerous mechanics, whether it's keeping your head down, keeping your planted foot pointed towards where you want it to go, or following through. Therefore, kudos to Brossoit on putting it all together to create hockey history. You've done well for the hockey community.
The Blackhawks' goaltender has brought up the history of the goaltender goal in the NHL. It's happened 20 times in the league with 17 different netminders doing the deed. The most recent goal? Ilya Sorokin on March 1, who got credited for a goal courtesy of an own goal from Steven Stamkos. The last goalie to score via a shot on goal was Alex Nedeljkovic on January 17, 2025, who did it against the Buffalo Sabres (he was with the Pittsburgh Penguins at the time).
While there's never been a Golden Knights netminder who scored a goal, fans can take solace in seeing one of their old faces do something cool. It's like everyone in Las Vegas is beaming down with pride on the former Stanley Cup winner. Feel that? That's the tears of joy flowing down the collective cheeks of Golden Knights fans everywhere.
