Elliotte Friedman gives Golden Knights fans some hope in the Dylan Larkin sweepstakes

Could a move be made? Or will he go somewhere else?

I'm going to be 100% honest for a second. These Dylan Larkin rumors have been quite exhausting. Sure, it's news to report for the slow summer months. However, it feels like a roller coaster that will either end extremely well or become a national catastrophe.

Guess what, dear reader? There's another rumor swirling around that Larkin is going to be gone before the 2026-27 season starts. Elliotte Friedman confirmed this belief on 32 Thoughts on Monday, stating that there's still a possibility that the gold medalist gets moved due to the lingering drama.

"Part of me still doesn't believe that Dylan Larkin will start next year in Detroit."

Of course, this should be taken with a grain of salt. Red Wings general manager Steve Yzerman has been steadfast in getting a marquee piece to come back in a potential deal. Ask the Minnesota Wild and the Dallas Stars how that's worked out for them in this sense.

But that's not all. The Stars themselves have also entered the chat, with Larkin adding them to his preferred destinations. That complicates matters further, although Detroit did turn down a Jason Robertson deal due to his contractual demands.

The Golden Knights get a small—albeit hopeful—boost in their chances of getting Dylan Larkin

Again, I'm going to be 100% honest with you here. It's tough to imagine the Detroit Red Wings coughing up Larkin to the Golden Knights here. It's not that there's a frontrunner in the competition. It's more along the lines of Steve Yzerman making this near impossible to deal with.

Yes, Kelly McCrimmon has been known to work miracles and surprise people. But what happens when the other side proves to be as unstable and unpredictable as possible? That's the issue facing the Golden Knights in this scenario.

Vegas doesn't have much regarding who they can deal to the Red Wings, either. The one player they had in tow, which was Pavel Dorofeyev, was dealt to the New York Rangers. So, who else are you going to trade here? Mitch Marner? Jack Eichel?

There isn't much meat on the bone for the Golden Knights to even get in the door. Sure, they could dangle a couple of first-round picks and Trevor Connelly while looking at other noteworthy pieces. But it's been made clear that Vegas doesn't have what Yzerman is looking for.

Yes, it stinks to say this. And yes, McCrimmon has proven me wrong on occasion. But this looks tougher when you consider that you need multiple teams involved. In turn, the small hope doesn't grow much, leaving it to linger on the side.
