The Olympics are always a memorable spectacle. It highlights the best performers from the United States (and Canada), along with other nations competing for international glory. Bruce Cassidy earned a distinctive honor for Team Canada's hockey team on Monday.

The Vegas Golden Knights head coach will be an assistant coach for Team Canada in Italy. He also worked the 4 Nations Face-Off with a similar honor, leading the Canadians to a tournament victory.

It's an excellent honor for the winningest head coach in Golden Knights history. Last season, he led Vegas to a record of 50-22-10 and earned 110 points. That was good enough to win the Pacific Division for Vegas, despite being eliminated in the second round.

Overall, Cassidy has a record of 246-146-73, earning 319 points as a Golden Knights head coach in three seasons. That's good enough for a points percentage of .648. His career record stands at 399-245-108, earning 536 points in six seasons and a points percentage of .672.

Some will say the Olympics have lost their luster over the years. The burden of hosting, combined with younger generations' loss of interest, has hurt the spectacle. But that doesn't mean the opportunity is completely diminished.

Canadians take immense pride in their national sport, rooting on their NHL teams when they succeed. Sure, they haven't won a Stanley Cup since 1993. However, that doesn't mean much when it comes to Olympic success.

The Canadians have won nine total gold medals in the Olympic Games, making them the main attraction every four years. That will be no different as fans expect to see Connor McDavid, Mitch Marner, and Nathan MacKinnon take the ice for the "Great White North."

Guess what? Cassidy has the ultimate opportunity to be their coach... sort of. Sure, he's not going to be the main bench boss when he heads to Italy. However, he's still going to the Winter Olympics. That must be a super-exciting opportunity of Olympic-sized proportions.
