I get home from watching an exciting NFL game between the San Francisco 49ers and the Seattle Seahawks. I'm ready to chill, relax, and get stuff done. But there's a small problem. I don't want to do anything. So I take a two-hour nap and think about what I'm doing with my life.
Let me be 100% transparent with you. It's been an exhausting two months behind the scenes. Between social media work, building a literal website and getting site members onboarded for free, and managing this, it's been long and exhausting. There are days when I feel like I don't want to get out of bed.
It has affected my quality of work, along with my mood and my wellbeing. The truth is that this can be an exhausting gig. Writing three or four times a day about things that are often meaningless can wear you down mentally. It feels like you're doing so much for so little.
With that, I'm taking a step back and scaling back. Instead of going super-hard for so little, I'm going to focus more on other facets and the quality side. I haven't done that with my articles in recent months and you guys have noticed it. Of course, many of you have been far more civil than, say, a Tiktok user who's busy typing a message in all caps while giving terrible advice. Thank you for not being overly crazy like that person while offering honest feedback. I am appreciative of you helping me become the best person I can be.
Why I'm prioritizing my mental health for the season
As mentioned, I'm mentally exhausted from overworking myself. It has been stressful work trying to manage everyday operations while dealing with the sporadic courts in the American justice system (I'm a court reporter for my main work). Imagine reporting on crazy contracts and business transactions happening in arguably the dumbest state in the nation, Florida.
There are days when I'm literally screaming my head off at a Florida lawyer putting in 100 defendants in a single case or stuffing their filings with 10-20 exhibits. Trust me, I love my full-time job and am greatly appreciative of the work that I'm getting. It's just that the workload can be overwhelming when you're trying to put out the next day's article(s).
Second, I started my own business! I created my LLC in July while traveling to New York and started the podcast on that site. I'm planning on channeling my energy more into my personal projects, so I can eventually be my own boss and put out riveting content for the masses.
It's been a ton of work personally. I've tried to figure out the layout of my website server and see how to properly work it. Personally, it hasn't been easy because you're figuring out how to type out riveting content without it look janky on mobile devices. Let me say that it takes more work than you could ever imagine.
The moral of the story? I'm focusing on me and my mental well-being. Yes, that sounds selfish to some. However, it's needed far more than simply trying to exhaust yourself on certain days, especially when you have other projects that you wish to get off the ground.
