I just had my fantasy hockey draft and I must say that I'm fairly happy with my lineup. I got names like Nathan MacKinnon, Sam Reinhart, and Tomas Hertl in my group, which will make for a terrific scoring team.
In fact, I will openly admit that I prefer fantasy hockey over fantasy football. Personally, it's tougher to keep up with a myriad of fantasy leagues since I have other obligations and I prefer to sleep. But it's too tedious to compete primarily against divorced dads and your best friends.
Now, I know who you want to pick. You're probably going after Jack Eichel, Mitch Marner, and/or Mark Stone. Heck, you might chase after former Golden Knights such as Logan Thompson, Nick Suzuki, and/or Pavel Dorofeyev. However, you have other options since these players will definitely be taken by your fellow fan.
Allow me to introduce to you three names that should be on your fantasy draft radar. It doesn't matter if it's during the later rounds or if you need someone to pick up on waivers. These three Golden Knights shouldn't be forgotten in any capacity, especially when you're looking for scoring and goals.
1.) Tomas Hertl
Pavel Dorofeyev is officially out of the picture, which means that Hertl should get more touches in the bumper. He originally was the record-holder for the most power play goals in a single season with 14 in 2024-25. Of course, Dorofeyev broke the record. But Hertl has an incredible opportunity to reclaim the record.
Expect more from the Czech Olympian this season, especially since he'll be the primary offensive source for the power play. Hertl might be getting older. But his role on the man advantage will become more vital than ever, since he thrives in this role.
2.) Brett Howden
When Brett Howden was paired with William Karlsson and Mitch Marner, the forward unleashed his offensive talents. It's partially why he led the NHL in goals scored during the Stanley Cup playoffs with 14 goals.
He's projected to be on that same line to start the regular season. That's good news for the former first-round pick, who'll get plenty of looks from two excellent playmakers in Karlsson and Marner. If he can lean heavily on his linemates and create magic, that'll make him a natural steal in the later rounds or on waivers.
3.) Shea Theodore
Last season was a down year for the Original Misfit offensively... at least when it came to his 2024-25 campaign. He produced 29 assists with the Golden Knights last season, down from the 50 he had the campaign prior. That might not seem like much in the grand scheme. However, he was playing a more defensive game with Vegas.
Still, Theodore has plenty of room to grow in the upcoming season. He's currently projected to hit the first power play unit, where he'll join stars like Hertl, Mark Stone, and Jack Eichel. That should give him even more opportunities to shine with the Golden Knights.
