Some Vegas Golden Knights fans have called for certain players to be replaced. They haven't liked what they've seen from these players so far and would like a bit of a shakeup. Now, I'm not going to name names (not yet, at least). However, it's worth considering since said players have cost the Golden Knights some points this season.
So, why not come up with a simple remedy? Let's replace the bad players with guys who want them more. Sure, the salary cap might be somewhat tight. You only got $487,568 to work with, according to PuckPedia. But you do have some in-house options that can fill the void.
For example, let's say that Jeremy Lauzon continues playing recklessly. He commits dumb penalties that don't help the Golden Knights. Who could fill in the void? Ben Hutton? Jaycob Megna? It's likely the former gets that call-up. But in all seriousness, that's not the focus since it'll likely not happen.
Instead, we're focusing on three forwards who should get the call-up. These forwards are capable of filling key roles, specifically with certain players not playing up to par. Their infectious energy and organizational familiarity would make them ideal for the Golden Knights right now. Let's say "hello!" to the three players that should get more opportunities with Vegas this season.
1.) Cole Reinhardt
Personally, I love Cole Reinhardt for many reasons. First, he plays with a chip on his shoulder every game, doing whatever it takes to contribute to his team. It doesn't matter if he's in a puck battle or whether he's defending. The former Ottawa Senator wants to impact the game.
That play has proven contagious for the Golden Knights, even leading to a goal this season. It's part of why Kelly McCrimmon brought him up to the main roster, filling in on the pressbox role. He's the energetic fourth-liner the Golden Knights desperately need, especially with the group not doing anything of substance to start the season.
2.) Alexander Holtz
The Swedish winger might not have any points to show for the season. However, he's committed himself to improving every game. That includes being one of the last guys in practice and working on his mechanics.
Eventually, Holtz will be rewarded for his work. Could that mean he gets back to his 2023-24 campaign with the New Jersey Devils (16 goals and 12 assists)? Stay tuned. But one thing's certain. The young winger's due for a breakout game or two.
3.) Jonas Rondbjerg
The Vegas Golden Knights' penalty kill has actually improved from last season, standing at a percentage of 77.3% entering Sunday (17th in the NHL). While that's a slight improvement from 75.7% last season (26th in the NHL), that doesn't mean there isn't room for improvement.
Enter Jonas Rondbjerg. While this is entirely a niche pick since he doesn't score much, he's useful whenever the unit desperately needs a pickup. Considering that Brandon Saad continues to struggle, it's possible for him to join the injured team.
