The moment the Vegas Golden Knights have been waiting for
In their sixth season as an NHL franchise, the Vegas Golden Knights have done it! They have won the Stanley Cup.
The moment the Vegas Golden Knights have been waiting for
Bring on the victory flamingos. On Tuesday night the Vegas Golden Knights won their franchise first ever Stanley Cup when they defeated the Florida Panthers 9-3 in Game 5 of the Stanley Cup Final. It was a big moment for the franchise, as their goal for the past six seasons was finally accomplished.
Vegas was the better team from the start of Game 5. They were leading 2-0 at the end of the first period thanks to a great short-handed goal by Mark Stone and a goal from Nicolas Hague. Then by the end of the second period, the score was 6-1.
This game had a lot of moments where fans were reminded of past seasons in Vegas. Bruce Cassidy chose to start the “Golden Misfits” at the start of the game. Five of the six original Golden Knights were on the ice to start the cup-clinching game of the Final. That was a really cool moment to see. If it were not for the team needing to play a goalie, all six of the misfits would have been on the ice to start the game.
Another reminder of past seasons came in how Vegas just refused to let up the pressure throughout the night. It reminded me of their big Game 7 loss in 2019 against the San Jose Sharks when they were leading 3-0 in the third period before giving up four straight power play goals.
Teams have to go through those moments of suffering to ultimately reach the end goal of winning the Stanley Cup, and Vegas has gone through those moments. The team learned from the mistakes of 2019, they learned from the mistake of putting your foot off the gas after reaching the Final and they ultimately did win it all at home in Game 5.

The Golden Knights are now Stanley Cup Champions. Bill Foley’s dream of bringing the Stanley Cup to Vegas has now been made a reality. After a nice summer of celebration, the team will get to put up a banner before hoping to defend their title. Since the Golden Knights entered the NHL, only one team has managed to win back-to-back Stanley Cups, maybe Vegas will be the next team to accomplish that.
