Vegas Golden Knights head coach, Pete DeBoer recently just announced that goalie, Robin Lehner is battling an upper-body injury. This injury was announced shortly after they had called up Logan Thompson from the Henderson Silver Knights.
The young Vegas Golden Knights goalie has yet to see real NHL action. He did however get a start earlier in the season against the Nashville Predators while Lehner was hurt. But are the Golden Knights going to be satisfied for the time being with a Brossoit/Thompson tandem?
In Lehner’s absence there have been rumors spreading that Golden Knights GM, Kelly McCrimmon, has contacted the Chicago Blackhawks about goalie, Marc-Andre Fleury’s availability.
Marc-Andre Fleury was the original goalie of the Vegas Golden Knights back in 2017. The beloved goalie was a integral part in bringing hockey to Vegas, and still holds a very special place in the hearts of all Golden Knights fans. That was before the off-season.
Heading into the off-season, the Golden Knights had to find a way to clear some cap space which is never fun. Given the fact that they had two goalies on their roster making as much money as they were made it obvious to the organization that one of them needed to go. As you can tell, they chose to keep Lehner and trade Fleury to the Blackhawks.
That didn’t sit well with many Golden Knights fans, and has created a vendetta for most against Lehner. Understandably so. Fleury was everything to the city of Vegas and losing him was like losing a limb, but at some point you have to say goodbye and move on. But due to recent events, the Golden Knights are currently interested in re-acquiring Fleury from the Blackhawks.
That rumor has brought in a lot of hope to the fans, but unfortunately it was false hope because during practice today, GM, Kelly McCrimmon shut down the rumors of Marc-Andre Fleury returning.
"“There is absolutely no credence to that rumor at all. I wouldn’t normally speak (Officially) on such things, but there will be so much racket about this, it’s important to let people know that’s not going to happen.” – Kelly McCrimmon"
That was reported by David Schoen of the Las Vegas Review-Journal.
So with that being said, it appears that the Golden Knights are not interested in re-acquiring the goalie from the Blackhawks after all.
