Start getting excited, Vegas Golden Knights fans.

After days of waiting, tonight could finally be the night with the Vegas Golden Knights on the cusp of signing Alex Pietrangelo according to multiple reports.

Yes, believed to be in the driving seat for Pietrangelo from Day One of Free Agency, an announcement on what would be the biggest signing of Free Agency could be made as soon as tonight.

More from Vegas Hockey Knight

Per Jeremy Rutherford of The Athletic, a deal between the Golden Knights and the elite defenseman is close and could be completed soon, maybe even later tonight.

Then, Andy Strickland of Fox Sports Midwest, confirmed that both parties are working on finalizing an agreement.

So, barring any last minute chaos, it seems clear that the Golden Knights are about to pull the trigger on arguably the biggest signing in the short but wild history of this franchise.

Pietrangelo is one of the best defensemen in the entire National Hockey League and he could well be the final piece in the Stanley Cup puzzle for the Knights.

He is a proven winner, he’s a leader, he’s a stud offensively, he’s elite in his own end and he will be the horse on the backend that the Golden Knights have long craved.

Put simply, Pietrangelo is a franchise defenseman and he’s about to make a very, very good team an elite team. He’s about to transform a contender into a legitimate powerhouse and one that could win multiple championships.

Is that hyperbole? Maybe, but you can’t overstate how important this signing will be to this franchise, to this organization and it will automatically make the Golden Knights clear winners of Free Agency.

From a two-time NHL All-Star to a Stanley Cup Champion, Pietrangelo already boasts a proven resume and he’ll be able to log big minutes for the Knights, play in all situations, quarterback the power play, man the penalty kill and come up with huge plays at both ends of the ice.

And, this blockbuster signing has another wrinkle in that it now gives the Golden Knights one of the best one-two punches in the entire NHL on the blueline in Pietrangelo and Shea Theodore.

We’ll say it again but this is a huge, huge HUGE moment for the Golden Knights and it will change the landscape in the Pacific Division, it will change the landscape in the Western Conference and it could change the landscape in the entire National Hockey League.

There will of course be ramifications to this signing, including some high-profile trades that could see face of the franchise Marc-Andre Fleury traded and maybe one of defenseman Nate Schmidt or forward Jonathan Marchessault also dealt.

Next. Three depth forwards that would be perfect. dark

However, there is plenty of time to delve into and then dissect all of that, which we will do over the coming days but, for now, let’s get excited because one of the best at his craft in the National Hockey League is on his way to the Vegas Golden Knights.

It is a game-changer.
