The win streak is now at three games for the Vegas Golden Knights after they survived a late onslaught to beat the Washington Capitals 3-2 at T-Mobile Arena on Monday.

It was the second time in less than a week that the Vegas Golden Knights had beaten a Stanley Cup Champion, and this was yet another real statement win.

The Golden Knights dominated from the first drop of the puck and they got their just rewards in the first period.

William Carrier and Tomas Nosek played a beautiful game of tic-tac-toe and it resulted in Nick Holden tipping in a feed from Carrier past Braden Holtby.

The Knights kept their foot on the gas and they doubled their lead late in the first when Reilly Smith finished a feed from Jonathan Marchessault after the latter had weaved his way through the neutral zone before dumping the puck in.

Vegas was on top in the second period too and they put themselves firmly in the driving seat when Max Pacioretty snapped a quick shot past Braden Holtby from a William Karlsson feed from behind the net.

Washington is an elite hockey team, however, and they launched a fightback in the third period with Marc-Andre Fleury being put under siege.

T.J. Oshie went top-shelf on Fleury with a wicked snipe from the circle, before the forward tallied his second goal of the contest after whipping home a one-timer on the power play.

Fleury and the Vegas Golden Knights held on for their third consecutive win, however, and we had some takeaways from the game…
